"Does that mean you don't have to pay rent or they don't have to pay you back rent they owe you? " Guess They are trying to get out of paying me. Surprise surprise.

"I guess technically (and I'm just playing devils doodah here) you are still a remnant in the property for that day. They can't let it because you were moving out etc " Absolutely, yes. It's pretty clear to everyone else, apparently. But not the Council. (They are supposed to be refunding me rent paid to a third party. They are refusing to refund the last day of the tenancy for their rather bizarre reason. It doubly makes no sense that way round).

The previous tenant left nothing of herself but there was a lot of cat wee up walls, doors and radiators. In a couple of places it had seeped under the laminate flooring, which hadn't been properly sealed. It was lovely. Not.

"years ago rent was due at 12 (noon) so technically they would have paid the rent up to this point ... this is also the reason why when moving home you normally don't/can't have the keys until 12 (noon) " In this case no time was specified in the tenancy agreement, just a date. It would be difficult to argue that it didn't mean the entire day, I'd think. Especially since the Council didn't argue that rent wasn't payable for the first day of the tenancy.
