toothache help

Help i have chronic toothache and was wondering if anybody has any home remedies that work. I have tried salt water, cold compress, tilting head back and painkillers. Anyone have any other tips would be gladly gladly appreciated as i am dentistphobe and really don't wanna go if needs be. Sorry for long opening post

I have a major dentist phobia so I can sympathise with you there, but luckily I've found one I like. If painkillers aren't working you've probably got an infection and will need antibiotics to clear it. Either way I'm afraid you're going to have to go to the dentist. Good luck.

i was alright til early this afternoon it was copable but its just been getting worse. I just don't get what caused it. Thanks for the advice though

Oil of cloves is great for toothache, but as an ex dental nurse I'd also say go to the dentist but tell them about your phobia and they will help you,

If it's hurting that badly you have either got some serious decay, or something like an abscess or infected root - that will never cure itself, going to the dentist is your only option I am afraid.

Oil of cloves and a hot water bottle.

But you do need to see a dentist. If you have an infection (abcess) it can cause major problems. Look for a dentist who specialises in phobic patients.

Anbesol, or clove oil does 'numb' the ache. (Well it did for me)

Like others have said visit the dentist, it could be an abscess so antibiotics are needed.

Before getting tooth looked at ask friends, family and workmates if any have a hot looking young/old male dentist,im pretty sure that may help with your phobia .

Get it pulled out

if its an abscess there is no point trying to do anything.

the second it is out it feels better.

fear of the dentist is irrational .the injection does not hurt at all and the pull takes seconds.its such a relief to get rid you will be glad you went

If you have any cloves, then you can also use these, instead of the oil. Anti-inflammatory meds will help reduce any swelling, as sometimes pain is also due to the pressure that's built up. Depends on your tolerance for this type of med tho, and what you've already taken.

Some dentists specialise in treating those who hate dental visits, so you could search to see if there's one that's local.

I know how you are feeling right now ive not long finished my 3rd lot of antibiotics.. Thooth pain is no joke i have a fear of neddles so find thats the worst bit for me.

The dentist said warm salt water garggels would help and it sure did but also needed the antibiotics too.

Go get it looked at its the best.

you may have food stuck in the gum pocket. to relieve that you should brush the area hard untill the gum bleeds. this reduces swelling and can clear the food debris. pain killers only codeine based pain killers work, such as co codamol. oil of cloves. yeah its nastyish but if it hurts that much its worth the taste.
