I had same operation last December...my surgeon said any type of oil will help so I just used Castrol GTX

Seriously though, olive oil is fine, I had coconut body oil which smells gorgeous so I used that when I remembered - 11 months down the line and I barely even think about it

Make sure you don't break your hip precautions!

Bio oil..apply to skin or use it in a bath. Expensive but effective. To be honest the £ shop used to do one with exact same ingredients. Would recommend either

Just speaking from experience I got a bollocking on my 6 week checkup for not using my crutches properly and I've over stretched the spring - not looking forward to my 12 month checkup cos I've not behaved very well since

I've been using Bio Oil after having a big op in August. I put it in the bath and also rub on after.

I would say that the scar is def looking a lot better. Mine burst after becoming infected, and you'd never know how bad it looked now

This, but I'd leave it. I like scars. They add character.

I've consistently used bio oil on my appendix scar and lap scars since I had the surgery. All of mine became infected (as I found out I'm allergic to dissolving stitches) and the appendix one became slightly keyloid. The scars are now pretty difficult to see and I'm becoming more confident about them.

Shhh! Bloody well hope my surgeon doesn't have a profile on here! (Actually, he wasn't bad looking so if he did, I wouldn't say no)

zinc cream from chemist or supermarkets, helps skin heal, second best, zinc and castor oil cream, as used for nappy rash, works well.

Cocoa butter my friend 3 times daily everyday palmers do one for men and stretch marks both the same really expect price lol just make you moisturise it 3 times everyday and it will reduce scar redness over time, bio oil also works so I told but it much more expensive for less of it good luck

must agree with gymrat ,

any natural oil rich in vit E is good for cell regrowth so cocoa butter , shea butter , wheatgerm , calendula (marigold)is excellent for preventing scar tissue hope this helps xx

Probably the best advice i can offer as have a few scars is gently massage the scare area where it is raised, this breaks down the scar tissue and adhesions, and will flatten out quickly not cause any pulling and the scar will slowly turn to a pale body colour but may well take up to 18 months for red appearance to dissapear, you need to give it time but any oils with massage will help, i don't think the oil does much appart from making it easier to massage... in my experience !
