I have always lived my life as a polite and respectful person, now the reason i joined this site was purely to find someone who has a similar sex drive as mine...but this doesnt mean im sitting on a bed/chair with my boaby out salivating over every possible meet...i still treat everyone the same, and like to think i am still polite and respectful,BUT... now maybe i am being too sensitive, but if you are chatting to someone and they suddenly stop replying is it not just polite to say either 'sorry im kinda going off you' or 'gonna stop messaging' at least instead of just not replying,am i missing something???

I've read some things tonight that would indicate ignorance is everywhere ...

In an ideal world yes - of course if someone has changed their mind you would want to know

This is this site.... people can be fickle

You're not alone. Happens regularly to me. Sometimes, after a prompt from me, you get the 'busy life' story - which I understand, so I tell them to get back to me if and when it suits them. Three weeks later.... Politeness goes a long way.

What's ignorance?

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

Ignorance means a lack of knowledge or information. How does one spread a lack of something?

If you mean that people are being rude and rudeness is spreading then maybe.

When does a conversation/exchange end? I may not have changed my mind about someone but I might not have anything more to say on the current conversation train. I'll start a new one when I have something to say. Is that rude or should I end by saying that I'm bored of this conversation now but will be in touch when I have something to say?

But no reply in the first instance is fine,a little annoying as it only takes a min to say no thanx, but thats fine, its when youre speaking away fine then suddenly for no reason it stops? Its just plain weird?

No i mean the conversation is going fine, banter both ways, plenty to say,i even ask something sometimes, then silence, its just weird.

Ignorance and rudeness i find do go hand in hand to be honest?

Some people say things that scare others off. It might not be the case but go look as to what you sent and possibly clarify if something could have been taken the wrong way.

"What's ignorance?"

I've give up trying to educate here.

- people tend to think 'to ignore' translates into 'ignorance'.

Easier to just go with the flow.

I was being ironic

'Ignorance is the absence of knowledge, stupidity is the ignorance of ignorance'

Yes, of course - but if there has been a quite healthy flow of messages, gearing up to meeting soon, and then suddenly silence for weeks... if there's a loss of interest, please just send a short message.

I have lost a few online friends over time two of whom proved to have died unexpectedly; others' fates I am in the dark about.

If I want to meet somebody it's because we click. So of course I am concerned when they suddenly fall silent.

Agreed....its not what you would do if you were in the street talking to someone.

You wouldnt just turn and walk away mid conversation, you would at least say i have to go,or sorry im busy?

I guess it's because the invisibility aspect; you're not talking face to face, so you can stop talking whenever you like. People won't be aware of (or don't care about) the impact of them going AWOL.

Central

I was raised similarly, where respect for others is central to life. The internet and fab in particular have their own etiquette, which some of us can find unusual or seemingly rude. What we dont know is what is going on at the other end. Are kids misbehaving, neighbours called in, phone ringing etc? Maybe no response is better than the famous and common blocking. Overall, Id prefer respect and civility and clarity but there are new rules and behavioural standards being formed, so we are not going to be always happy and certain over others.

I usualy tell someone im sorry but i have changed my mind, i dont think they are my type after all, only one man who i said that too didnt like it and insulted me. You can be chatting to someone then they say something which makes you feel very uncomfortable or you realise they are lying to you.

Also i have had men say they wanted to meet me a week later then i didnt hear from them again, so i blocked them as its a waste of time meeting someone your not sure about, they probably wouldnt have been my type and i wouldnt of been theirs either. I would prefer it if they just said i am not realy their type, but i think if they were interested they would of kept in contact anyway.

But that's your expectations, not everyone fits them, its like sometimes it takes people ages to say goodbye. And they have to say it loads of times

And sometimes its best just to let intuition take place.

Intuition?! Are we all clairvoyants?

Just a polite short message and then block, if you must. Then we all know where we stand and move on.

This life, and my everyday one, are two distinctly separate entities. As such, Fab tends to take a backseat to real life a lot of the time. And life just....."happens", so if it ends up with me falling away from conversation, well, that's life. I don't think it is impolite to have to explain that prior to it potentially happening.

And i certainly don't ever feel the need to force online conversation.

if a conversation has come to a natural end, why would someone try to force it?

if you ask how are you,

they reply fine, you?,

you say 'yeah im great.

where is the conversational continuance there.

would rather, as people have said, start a fresh one when i have something to say, than force a crap convo to continue

Treat everyone with politeness, even those who are rude to you – not because they are nice, but because you are.
