No fire so I wonder if they ran out of fuel. Scary though for all involved...seems it is a police helicopter.

Helicopter fuel is much harder to ignite than your normal aircraft fuel. As long as it isn't under pressure you could chuck a match in it and the match would go out. However, hot gearbox, and hydraulic oil can be a real bitch.

We've had a proper panic here , our son lives round the corner from this pub and you can see his block in the pictures on the news. We have had a right time of it. Loads of of unanswered calls and numerous texts.

Fortunately as soon as he came out of the pub he was in and realised what happened he phoned us to reasure us. All his mates parents had a panic as well.

And some ARSEHOLE thinks it's funny and makes light of it.

Busy pub with band playing 10.30pm. It's not part if town I go to and don't think anyone I know goes to but hope trapped are safely out soon. Thoughts with those effected.

Don't think anyone actually knows unless someone they know directly eg relative was there and hurt or worse. Just watched a video of fire officer being inter_iewed although he was giving no info the reporter was terrible kept asking same question and pushing him to answer something he doesn't know if is true just so reporter got a story

As usual the threads get taken over by people arguing over a stupid remark rather than discuss what is actually happening.

I really don't know what is worse.

Why not get back to what the thread is about.

Over the years I’ve taken many 100’s if not thousands of flights in helicopters and I’m sure the pilot would have tried everything possible to avoid this dreadful outcome……

Listening to an eye witness she said there was no noise, just the ceiling moving slowly and then caving in so it doesn't sound like it crashed but could have landed on the roof and then the roof caved in.

From reports, it would seem it was attempting to return to the police/ air ambulance heliport. The lack of explosion or fire might indicate a lack of fuel.

There's a park, Glasgow Green about 200 yards east of the crash site. Wide open space.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

I saw a former neighbour of mine on the news talking about the shock and devastation there.

Right now the only thing that matters is getting people out, treated and letting loved ones know if they are alive or not.

The speculation about what happened will go on, it is human curiosity, but let us not lose sight of the people involved and affected.

My thoughts are with them.

Do not read lack of fuel as running out of fuel, all pilots work within clear margins of safety on fuel levels and have a return to base fuel level that is well above empty.

Speculation is a dangerous thing and we should concentrate our thoughts towards those involved and affected and leave the reasons why the aircraft came down to the subsequent investigation.

My son was in a student pub in the city centre. Everyone in there was getting texts and calls from concerned parents.

What an awful accident.

The police are praising the general public for all helping to get people out. They said some showed extraordinary courage going into the pub to help.

To be honest listening to all reports of people helping And showing compassion doing whatever thry could even going back into the building to help doesn't surprise me. Typical glasgow attitude that when something terrible like this we do what we can to help each other. Proud to be Glaswegian

wrong a tank a vapor is more volatile than a tank of fuel its the vapor that ignites not the liquid . thats why you never see a petrol tanker running road without its hazard diamonds its a hazard full or empty

Perhaps my suggestion re lack of fuel wasn't so far off after all.

From Reuters a few minutes ago.

"(Reuters) - Eurocopter issued a safety alert to operators of its EC135 helicopters on Monday after aircraft from the same fleet as one that crashed into a Scottish pub last month killing 10 people and some in Europe were found with a fuel gauge defect.

UK-based air services company Bond Aviation grounded its fleet of 38 EC135s on December 11, after an air ambulance, one of its 22 aircraft leased in Britain, was found to have a fuel indicator problem. Tests found others also had the same fault."
