charity work

Is anyone aware of any kind of charity work that can be done with children in tow? I can imagine it would be fairly difficult but I really want to get involved with something

Depends how young the children are but an organisation that runs play sessions would probably welcome them.

environmental/tidy town/litter picking/urban renewal type community group/charities would welcome kids and adults

There's a string of Volunteer Centres across the country designed to match volunteers with organisations which need them. Might be worth a look.

Ring the local council, they will provide you details of voluntary groups that interest you.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

Type in your town and volunteer centre or your town and council for voluntary service. Some have both but many have merged into one organisation. Or look at Volunteering England on the internet and see what they have listed for your area. Also look at Working Mums on the internet as they have a volunteer page and tips how to fit in volunteering with and around children.

A lot of volunteering will be difficult with twins so young. There are things you can do but think about what you would like to do first. It's easier to place someone if you know what interests them.

Ive had a look at a website that femme gave me but nothing I can do with the twins. Thinking maybe raising money with coffee mornings, bake sales etc might be the way to go for now. I used to work for a charity run school for disabled children but until the twins are in nursery next year I can't go back

Doit.org is a good starting point for volunteering as it lists most things around the country. Stuff where you may be able to take your little ones... I'm thinking helping out at local play centres or offering to run a story: song session at your local library for babies? How about local care homes? Our local ones have regular open days and encourage people to take along their children for the residents to meet? I'd imagine spending time with toddlers would brighten many an elderly persons day. Just a few ideas x

Make an appointment to go into your local volunteer centre and speak to them. See my post above.
