" I don't doubt you, being able to hold yourself still in the saddle, especially when standing requires you to tense muscles from your head to your toes, I can see why so many professional jockeys both male and female have very firm looking legs. | |||

Different sports require different types of fitness. I heard Sonny Bill Williams of New Zealand say that tackles are bigger in League due to the 3/4 man tackles, but Rugby players are far more aerobically fit. | |||

"I used to event, ride for hours every day and then go dancing nearly every night. I haven't got any horses for the first time in 30 years and I've put quite a bit of weight on, but I can still dance lindyhop non-stop for hours while people half my age flag! " Long story, but a while back i wound up in hospital with a suspected heart attack. Did loads of tests at two different hospitals (incl a specialist unit in Manchester) and nothing could be found. Eventually someone asked if i did any sport as i had an unusually low heart rate. Told them i cycled a bit and was thrown out in disgust! It turns out there is a type of heart attack where your heart rate drops markedly and i managed to fool the machine in the ambulance! | |||

The keeping of horses is a bit like weight training with all the lifting of bales etc, and schooling is more about core-stabilising strength than fitness too. My dancing is much more aerobic, but the horse work kept me strong. I can dance fast fast hours, but if I walk further than normal I can feel it in my legs - wierd. | |||

And believe me it is not a healthy look. And their are some pictures of Bradley Wiggins where his limbs look so skinny it is pretty disturbing. I met Dan Lloyd a few years ago just before he rode the tour de france. Even dressed in civvys and in a room full of cyclists he was noticably skinnier than anyone else present. At the top levels, it really isn;t healthy. | |||

Ok, most people on here who consider themselves slim/muscular and fit would describe themselves as athletic, but beyond looking good, do you have any sort of athletic 'feats' you're good at? Are you a good fast/long distance runner/swimmer? Who can jump over a gate? Are you notably strong at the gym, can you do 60 press ups in a minute etc?" Slim is rarely muscular a couple of arm pimples and ribs showing through don't make you that way. Athletic is often different and only a few athletes are skinny as exercise builds you up. | |||

Even when I make a concerted effort to get leaner I can only get my abs 'visible' rather than that hard, etched in look guys like archangel have, and even then have to concentrate on what I eat to maintain that level of leanness. ...I can lift big things though | |||
