Is LOL acceptable text speak

I 4 1 am not a fan of txt spk. Howeva

I find that the phrase lol, is the best way to convey that I have found a comment, post or message amusing. Indeed laughing out loud may have been my literal reaction to such communication; yet it seems to me a suitable metaphorical reaction to amusement.

What I am rather long windedly saying is that I like lol indeed I like to lol.

I really don't like text speak but lol doesn't bother me. A 'haha' can come across as sarcastic and mean I think, and 'hehe' is a little too girlish.

I cant stand status with LMAO or PMSL or ROFL on the end of, more than likely the person who wrote is grumpy and not sat there chuckling along.

Biggest gripe is NOM NOM NOM. No such word, people dont make that noise when they eat, not even Pacman does.

My ex wife once sent my daughter a text that said 'Your brother is in hospital with serious anaphylactic shock, LOL, Mum x'. Someone had to explain that LOL didn't mean 'lots of love'.

lol, wtf and tbh are just about the only text abbreviations I use regularly.

It's the ones that use numbers or that only save one or two letters and sound chavvy, (wiv, fink, dis, dat), that I hate most.

Been there, done that (more than once) and no, the text speak and crap English still put me off.

Several times in the past I've thought "Oh don't be a snob" and have tried to exchange messages with someone who otherwise seemed nice, but it has never worked. The messaging has been stilted and often painful to read and doesn't usually lead me to believe we have anything in common. Since I need a mental connection as well as physical attraction for sex, I soon lose interest. Having learnt from experience I don't try now.

I have to be honest though, the real text speak doesn't really get on my nerves as I just don't bother reading it. It takes me so long trying to decipher it, so I don't bother.

Internet speak is different though for me, so I don't mind that.

I agree it's more internet speak anyway - I tend to use IMO quite a bit, and I luuurve WTF, that makes me lol!!

"lol" doesn't bother me if it's used when something could be seen as somewhat funny but it's when it's over used or just in the wrong times that annoys me.

Like on a profile, "I'm a fun guy lol will try anything once lol want to try this swinging malarkey lol, lol, lol, lol , lol et cetera fucking et cetera
