Totally shocked by this news article currently flashing around all the newspaper.....how does a thing like that happen , how can they get away with it for so long , too many unanswered questions IMO ....sounds a bit like that kidnapping story from the USA of those 3 girls found captive in that house for like 6 years or something .....but this story is on a whole new kinda WTF

many married women are kept as slaves, without money, hope or friends, so nothing new here!

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

It is a shocking story but really not the only one. London has a team at the Met to cover this sort of work.

I was shocked when I heard the stories of street homeless people being shackled to work and then thrown back onto the streets when they had been used up. The stories of women and children trafficked into slavery here.

I am glad these three women have got the support they need - it will be a long road to recovery. Well done Freedom Charity for their work in this case.

There's a lot of hard work that goes on behind the scenes that the general public don't know about. They do a fantastic job.

You see what happens, if it wasnt for the suffragettes there would be no need for them to be kept locked up

East Sussex

we were discussing this this afternoon. Wondering how it could happen but on thinking about it we realised that "invisible handcuffs" are just as binding as real ones we also looked about our street and realised that almost any one of the houses could have someone inside that we knew nothing about.

As has been said there are people in full view of us who are effectively enslaved or in servitude.

How so? I don't think an ID card would have helped these women.

Indeed, they were off the grid. How would you ID someone who went off the grid 30 years ago?

No doubt we will find out in time. The fact that no one will even confirm if the 30 year old is related to one of the women shows how close they are guarding the facts until ready to bring a case.

The reason I referred to invisible handcuffs earlier was because it was a phrase a police officer used in an interview earlier to illlustrate that maybe these women had been enslaved mentally rather than physically in which case ID cards wouldn't have helped them But I do tale your point that any tiny bit of ammunition will be pounced on by anyone pro ID card

To have the ability to walk out of the house and run for it , but be too terrified to do so just shows the hold these people had over them ...and us a 1 st world nation ....
