My first real cuddle !!

Today I have put my Christmas tree up for my Autistic daughter so I can get her ready for the big day and this has to be done in stages and not WHAM all at once.

She came home school and did not notice it at all, bering in mind that is a 6ft tree.

Later this evening she came back in the room stood and looked at it for ages, then turned and put her arms round me and pulled me into a cuddle. Not wanting to frighten the life out of her, I had a few silent tears until she got fed up and walked away.

I thought WOW I have only waited 15 1/2yrs for that to happen.

I just hope I get another soon and not later.

I hope you dont mind me sharing this milestone with you all, I am still on a high its far far better than taking anti-d's..

She will only ever let me cuddle her if her back is to me, so when she did this face to face I was speechless. I just need her to talk now maybe Santa will sprinkle some magic dust on her for me lol

handicapped kids have very different ways of showing their emotions. Our son`s the same in many ways as he has "down`s syndrome".... Milestones are not set in years but in time zones...... Cherish them whenever you get them... xx

My 5 year old nephew is Autistic and he keeps asking about christmas and santa. But he's very affectionate. I hope you don't mind me asking but does she go to a special needs school? My nephew was permanently excluded from his mainstream primary school because he's autistic, I myself have dyspraxia, and my uncle has asperges. Good luck!

no matter

That must have been a lovely experience i do hope this is the start of affectionate times for you.

Working so hard and loving a child when they dont show they love you in the way other children do. These steps are so important ..

Maybe someone could snatch a camera and take a photo of moments like that.

xsmiles .

Best Christmas story I have heard! I take my daughter's hugs kind of forgranted but love them so that must have been a truly uplifting moment for you. Merry Christmas!
