Sod the driver! hes down the bottom where its safe!

Most West Mids Towns

Few years ago when building number 1 america square,a tower above fenchurch st station we had high winds and after breakfast stayed in our cabin as winds so bad,we had the square below cordoned off as cladding sheets & trim were being whipped of the stackpile and sent crashing down!,the riggers had to lash all lose stuff down.

on the tower block i was on above tower bridge i had to be lifted up quite high on crane in a basket to do welding & oxy-acetylene burning to make beams fit and it was a terrific view over the thames & city from there,so good a view in fact that when i got dropped back down into america square after work on sat-sunday afternoons there was a queue of photographers there waiting to "bung"the banksman so they could get lifted up in the manrider basket to get some pics of the views!.

One day the supervisor asked if i could take some guys up in manrider with me and drop them off at a level below where i was working, they clambered in with bag of tols, battery drill etc,i sat on hand rail and held the lifting chains and nodded to the banksman that we were ready for lift,he winked at me and gave the order to procede with the lift,as we were lifted he gently pushed the manrider so it spun and as we rose higher it spun faster!,you should have seeen the look on the other guys faces!,i said it would cost you at least a fiver for a ride like that at alton towers or thorpe park!.

I did same sort of work for the steel erection company on isle of dogs before canary wharf etc spoilt the views, that was a terific view of docklands and beyond from the tower crane.
