Surely not searching for child abuse images is a good thing? It is a pretty grotty thing to do. Besides you can just go to The Mail Online and see pics of 15 year old girls in bikinis with some sort of lurid byline if you are so unfortunate? What is the difference between banning shops from selling child porn to banning search engines from returning searches? It is all censorship but a right minded person has to look at the subject and decide if they are happy with that particular thing. If they were trying to ban searches for something more acceptable then you kick up a massive fuss.

this is all correct, but (always a but) the danger is that legislation is forced through parliament off the back of dodgy research showing these measures to be working, and then we would end up with the legislation being used to censor any number of things that politicians and senior civil servants dont want us to know. Feel like an anarchist now. power to the people.

The truth of the matter is that the incidents of pedophilia and child abuse are about the same now as they were 50 years ago, as are the rates and speed of detection and conviction. Further more like it or not the knee-jerk reactions bourn out of fear and anger of the masses (most of whom have children) is the same now as then. And every politician that can will use that groundswell of anger to divert attention away from their failings and corruption and to add further restrictions to our freedoms.

It is self evident that preventing searches for revolting things will prevent people from using that method. That cannot be bad. The dark web can only be accessed by using a Tor browser and having had a very mild foray into it, i can say it is indeed " DARK " to say the least.

All this crap from the government on censorship is just smoke and mirrors, the reality is they will never stop this stuff going on unless they shut the entire web down.

I would rather the money is spent on a tech task force whose sole purpose is to track, arrest and shut down ANY web based child pornography full stop. Money well spent instead of stupid elongated meetings with ISP's and spending vast amounts of tax payers cash on useless protocols and blocking tactics.

When the ISP's in the UK blocked the main Torrent sites do you think this stopped it ?? NO !

And this is exactly the same scenario only difference being it forces the real nasty pieces of work further into the dark web or to use harder to track solutions.

No really, you don't get it! There is no conspiracy theory, this shit is happening. Look at The Patriot Act in the US and how that gets amended and abused. The Terrorism Act here gets the same kind of abuse.

People need to wake up and realise that one day they may inadvertently find themselves the wrong side of the imaginary line in the sand that they drew and said 'I don't do any of those things, so these laws don't affect me'.

Who killed JFK, who killed Diana, Did man land on the moon, is the world run by lizard mutants...that's all conspiracy theory, whereas this stuff is happening right in front of your eyes and you're too dumb to do anything about it (the 'you're' was rhetorical before your blood vessels explode!)

And put into real-life terms, if it stops ONE nonce, then no, it won't be worth it because the Government, Google and Microsoft all work on an ROI basis and one nonce for the amount of money they will have had to spend, doesn't represent a decent return on investment.

Cat amongst the pigeon time a relative of mine is registered with a chold modelling agency all totally legit checked out etc and has been for a while.

If you search for child modelling as example will this now throw up no results. If the isp have filters set right its good if not then could cause difficulties. Do not get me wrong all efforts must be looked at to stop pedos searching for images but for legit folk will they be hit too.

the best way to police the internet is by everyone using it to report any illegal and/or concerning content to the appropriate authorities. Not by setting out the conditions that would allow censorship.

The internet was set up to amongst other things allow freedom of speech free from intereference unfortunately the bad folk use it for own means too. I do feel this is start of slippery slope which folk may rue in time.

Making it difficult to find illegal images is great but as above poster says folk reporting things is best way to help catch the baddies.

I am no tech head or computer geek. But what I do know is that if there was some sort of block on these searches there would be another way around them. Also if you remove one site another five pop up to replace that one that has been removed. I remember a little while back that the man with the big shiny forehead wanted to block 'all porn' and make us sign a little form if we wanted to look at porn sites.

I have a couple of theories about all this and it isnt as clean cut as it seems. I think there is an ulterior motif behind the smoke screen. Mr Cameron wouldnt do something just for the sake of it. He is definitely getting a massive back hander out of it.

The other is it is taking the limelight away from something else that is going on. And what that is, we will just have to wait

You only have to look at how local councils have abused the RIP act, which was a knee jerk reaction to combat terrorism, to guess how the ability to censor the internet will be abused in the future.

To me it makes a lot more sense to allow nonces to find the stuff easily, and use the fact that they have looked for it to lock the fuckers away.

Of course that would cost money and not allow you to police people looking for stuff that might prove embarrassing.

The Government have their own agenda with their crazy version of "censorship", legal paid sites that need credit card entry are being shut down yet free sites like "you Porn" etc that need no credit card entry & open to all children are free to trade as normal.

We (a large group of us) are taking the matter to European court as what they are doing is going against our human rights, over the years we have helped Essex police break pedo rings as have our other producer friends so safe guarding children is very important to us.

Us & friends do this legal at present but pushing us against the wall will just drive things underground which is something the government don't want.

Free sites are not affected by ATVOD a group that issues the legal sites with heavy stealth taxes, this makes us 100% sure that the government care nothing for children otherwise they wouldn't let the free sites operate this way.

We know palms are being greased & when we find out heads will role but in the meantime the porn industry will cease to be able to trade online, after us they are next planning on shutting or censoring swinging sites & any other adult media so it will effect us all.

We base ourselves from the US to get over the British witch hunts at present but the war is on guys so enjoy things whilst you can...like China the UK will be the only country in the world to block anything adult.

Its lovely being in a free country isn't it lol!

Part of the problem is also that Technology will ALWAYS supersede the speed of legislation etc.

Thats why all the blocking etc is flawed, because by the time it comes into play technology or software has already been developed and deployed to circumvent any government measures.

Even the most basic of users can easily find information on proxy servers, VPN's and how to deploy them therefore bypassing blocks etc.

Im all for hunting down and punishing those that partake in ANY kind of child pornography or abuse for that matter. But the simple fact is the measures that are publicly being taken are flawed and outdated.

I would rather see a Tech task force set up specifically designed to track , target, arrest and prosecute those that are involved in ANY kind of child abuse or pornography.

The irony is the government, MI5 etc can track, trace and monitor any kind of terrorist threat using technology so why cant they use that to get these horrid people brought to justice ??

It will be easy to unblock sites as the industry as already took this into account if we unfairly treated.

The Government also want to block anything adult on phones like naughty phone chats, film downloads etc & also web camming which will also will not be allowed on the UK net by 2015.

The industry are working on new things to use as plan B like adult style interactive mags in CBZ files, these play on any Android,Apple,Windows,Linux platform so as one thing is banned something else will pop up.

We (as an industry) would rather keep things above board & legal but if the UK Government unlawfully (under European laws) do censor then everyone is in shit.
