Siren came in from work this evening and immediately fired up her laptop. Mi kiss, no 'Hi honey', she went straight to her laptop and logged onto Google Maps and said, "come and have a look at this!"

What I saw next shocked me to the core. Google had driven their CameraVan down our back lane with the camera mounted on a pole high enough to see over our garden wall and straight into our house! The patio blinds were open and you can clearly see our dining table and beyond into the living room and then straight out the front room windows. Our garden furniture is in plain view and to say I am outraged at this invasion of our privacy is putting it mildly to be honest.

The local burglars now have loads of time on their hands as they no longer need to go out casing a joint. Google have done it for them!

I am so goddam angry at the moment!!!

Ain't it just! You would have thought that level of intrusion would be illegal so it prompts the question: Do Google have permission from the authorities?

Obviously they do, so my next question is: Are they doing precisely what the government would love to do unopposed and have Google been granted permission to do so long as the govt can have the unedited footage?

Yes our city went live on Google street view today aswell, and yes I've checked out all my friends house's but that is a shocking invasion of privacy...

I did notice all the number plates had been blurred out, so you would think if they had time to do that, why not check the window situation too

"

Click on to Google's British version of Street View and you can stare in detail at streets in 25 cities.

However hard you click your mouse, though, it doesn't take long to see that Leicester – the biggest city in the East Midlands – has been left out.

According to Google, there is no way of saying if and when it will be included.

Today, Leicester City Council leader Councillor Ross Willmott said it was "bizarre" that such a big and prominent city should have been overlooked. "

Thank feck for that!

From Google Maps help:

"If you've found an image that you believe contains objectionable content, just follow these steps:

1. Locate the image.

2. Click "Report a problem" in the bottom-left of the image window

3. Complete the form, and click "Submit".

That's it. We'll review your report promptly"

One of the resons you can specify is "Privacy" - hope that helps!

Browse to your house in streetview, click "report a problem" and there is the option to ask them to remove your home.

But by reporting it you tell them where you live.

I've been on Google for months!

I'm so glad they came in the summer when I had my hanging baskets, planters and window boxes in full bloom. So did the neighbours.

That said, it must have been a Sunday as it looks like all the neighbours' cars are there. They all drive Mercs, BMWs and 4x4s. I don't have a car but there's a shiney black Audi parked outside: the thieves will think it's mine when all I have is my Oyster card!

I was pictured on another system, MultiMap I think, doing something I shouldn`t have been doing, namely using the firm`s kit to do a cash job for someone else. The nature of the job means that satellites can easily see what I`ve done as the ground changes colour Not long after I discovered it, the satellite view was updated, but as others have indicated, you can get details masked/changed/deleted.

All of a sudden I'm glad we live in the corner of a cul-de-sac, you can hardly see our house, never mind into it

Some of the neighbours houses are interesting though...

Definitely dodgy that Google can do it but then again there's nothing to stop you going and taking a photograph of your street and sticking it on the web for all to see.

Last time I checked this for my address we were too far from real people to count and they had the local curry house in my flats (lol way to annoy the d*unkards ) but I just checked again after reading that 95% of UK roads were done and OMG they went and found my tiny wee town - and I use the word town very liberally

Luckily when they filmed it was a nice sunny day (must have been the one day of summer we got last July) and even tho my curtains are open you cant see in you just get a reflection of the other windows in the street.

Round the back again luckily it was a day we were out cos the kids paddling pool wasnt out (even if they removed my youngest in her bright pink swimsuit I was sitting outside at our table reading while she was in the pool so I would be seen), and cos of where a tree is (one I complain to hubby about on an almost daily basis cos I cant see the kids over at the bike track cos of it) you cant see in mine or my neighbours kitchen windows

But I did manage to get close enough to take a reading from our gas meter

If you are going to report an image, make sure you move to the next images as well. Google tend to only remove the image reported, where if you move up the road and look back you can still see (whatever it was that caused your concern).

Well our road hasn't been Googled and by all accounts it never will be....which I find dissapointing...but we have looked up other addresses of friends etc. and try as we might we can't see how when you zoom in that you can see much detail at all through the windows of houses.

The Google that shows my Dartmouth shop has a clear shot of the shop window but when I zoom in the shelving etc. inside is very blurred.....so I fail to see what all the fuss is about.

Maybe you don't value your privacy as much as other people do but my back garden is for me and my family to relax in our own little corner of the world away from prying eyes. Google have ruined that by showing what our garden looks like to anyone who wants to see it. I disagree with that strongly and I feel like we've been violated. Who the fuck does Google think they are? They've taken it upon themeselves to map the globe and they've ridden roughshod over anyone who stands in the way of that global policy. They claim that any image shown is one that would be clearly visible to anyone who came and looked in the flesh. That maybe so, but distance prevents most internet users from getting here - but hey, they don't have to now, Google has given them front row seats at Stalkers-R-us dot com!!!

I have just been up and down my street on street maps, and tried to zoom into the windows of the houses with the open curtains.

As far as i can tell, you can see plants etc that are on the windowsill but cant actually see INTO the house.

Maybe thats cos my street was done on a sunny day as all i get is reflections in the window and blurryness.

Its also very interesting to see how many people actually DO keep their curtains closed in the middle of the day, hehe

OK, first thing is in the UK anyone can take a picture of anything or anyone that can be seen from public land. That means that I can photograph anything, including back gardens that can be seen from say a path.

To call the photographing of an empty back garden an "invasion of privacy" and "feeling violated" is a gross over reaction Wishy!

How that Google camera has reached into 3rd floor windows I can't imagine, as they are only around 8ft high! Yes our house is on there and yes it was right outside. BUT we are 10 ft up from the road and you can,t see anything inside our house because we are too high...

And how someone can recognise a person unloading their car or themselves enough to say that it is "a bad pic" is beyond me....

Here we are with a government who has collected way too much data on us over the last 13 years and every time we make a move we are captured on CCTV and you are worried about pictures that are out of date before they are published! Burglers wont use them because they have no idea when or what day or time they were taken.

Now you can save all that angst for something that deserves it!

MY present house is on there - and the car out front belongs to the one of the guys that lived there before us lot (so thats 3 years out of date)

My previous house is on there - again with previous tenants black car in the drive.

MY parents house is on there - and the caravan and old cars the people had before them is on the map - so thats about 6 or 7 years out of date.

Even got sheds in the garden they dont have and a tree thats not there anymore.

Also down the road where the community centre is - thats been there the last 5 years, still shows up as waste ground on the map.

Well out of date!!!!

No wonder google maps send me all over the place when i print em off to go places, lol

Read recently that up to 70% of all burglaries in England and Wales are carried out by junkies, if this is true can hardly see some twat off his face sitting in his squat Googling anything!

I was off work week before last - and during the day 5 people knocked on my door.

Now surely THAT would be more of an indication to suspect burglers if i was in or not.

The fact my car was in the drive doesnt say much as so many people have 2 cars these days.

That worried me more about being burgled than being on Google
