Donated their eggs or been a surrogate? I'd like to do both but I'm on the rod and I don't have my own child but I want to be able to give someone that gift to have a child via my eggs or being a surrogate, whether hetro, gay or lesbian. Any advice?

Im no expert but I think you will need to be very sure that you won't become attatched imotionally , just my opinion !!!

I would only become emotionally attached if it was my child I was pregnant with, not someone elses (although by law it is my child until the parental order comes through)

I was in the beginning processes of egg donation for my sister, but they discovered she's not physically capable of carrying a pregnancy (heart problems and god knows what else she has everything wrong with her). She briefly hinted at me being a surrogate for them but I don't think I could do that, and it never got brought up again.

My friend donated her eggs a couple of years ago. It was pretty intense with all the hormones she had to take and she doesn't know if it ended in a viable pregnancy but she's glad she did it.

I would love to do it but can't.

A friend, who cannot get pregnant wanted a child with her partner but he has had the snip which he can't get reversed as it would cost a couple of grand to do it privately. I don't know how to go about doing it. I feel like Juno, hoping to see an ad in the paper looking for a surrogate lol

I know it is not something I could have done emotionally even if I had been physically able to carry a pregnancy to full term. Don't do it without some counselling first.

I looked into egg donation but you have to be able to inject yourself daily for a fair few weeks and that was the bit I wasn't sure I could do...although if it's like the 'pens' diabetics use for their insulin then I think I could. Might have to look into it again.

I have also thought about surrogacy...one of my best friends has had to have an ovary removed and has other issues in that area so may not be able to naturally conceive or carry a child to term. I haven't offered yet as she hasn't got a partner and hasn't fully investigated her fertility, but I've already decided that if she can't carry a child I will offer to for her as I know it will break her heart if she can't have kids, whereas I don't have a maternal bone in my body

I'm glad there's people out there like me and you who want to help people have children and yes to inject yourself it is with a diabetic pen type injection

Egg donors are so rare, there are waiting lists in many areas of the country.

For a start, contact your local fertility clinic to see if they are looking for donors.

Be prepared for numerous screenings and tests and yes, hormones and injections. You'll go through exactly the same process as a woman going through IVF so down regulation (injection or "sniffs" of a hormone that surpresses your normal cycle for approx 3-5 weeks) then daily injections (stimming - anything from 12 days to 3 weeks depending on how you respond) to get it back up again (injections are fine - the needles are diabetic needles - I used to be needle phobic but soon learnt not to be!)

You'll need to go for regular scans whist you're stimming so the clinic can make sure you don't over produce eggs (OHSS - severe cases can kill) and also so they can determine the optimum time to do egg collection (eggs must be ripe but prior to the body naturally releasing them)

Then you would have egg collection. A light anesthetic whilst the eggs are harvested then that would be you done.

It's a draining process but one that could give a couple something that they never dared dream they'd ever have.

You would receive counselling prior to making any decisions and need to be aware that legally now, a child conceived through donor eggs or sperm can contact the donor after the age of 18 (hence the severe shortage of donors now)

Its a very noble thing you're thinking of doing, just make sure you make the right decision. It would be devastating for the couple if you pulled out after being matched.

No,you won't. You'll likely be asked to wait until you have several (usually 3) clear periods before you can start as well.
