"Have you ever come across music snobs?" All the time. I don't understand why people get so upset about what is basically personal preference. So what if I like a band you don't like? Who does it hurt? PS And tell your mate ABBA are awesome!

"I'm a music snob. There are some types of music I like others I dont, as said, that is a matter of taste. However there is good, bad and frankly, disgusting formulaic music in every genre (how I hate that pretentious word) and I despise mediocrity and plagiarism. Sad fact is most "pop" music is turned out to a formula... Set tempo at a multiple of 60 to 65 BPM so it is in sync with the resting heartbeat of an average young healthy human...60 to 65 for ballads, 120 to 130 for upbeat numbers and 180 to 189 for hardcore dance/rock/grunge. Then use a simple 3/4 4/4 beat with a simple repeating major or minor 3 cord progression. No need to be a competent musician no need to have a good voice computers can correct all mistakes. I can fully understand how anyone who understands talent would say that a poet like Dylan wipes the floor with the regurgitated pop pap turned out by ABBA. However I also understand how someone who is musically uneducated would consider that ABBA's "Janet and John" outpourings would be superior to anything that requires a medico of musical literacy. Hey Ho... Musical snob here... " Lol It's a bit sad to think, you would need a musical education, before deciding what music to like. Rather than being musically instinctive enough to know, when you hear it. Have you ever just heard a song, and thought, hey that's good. She loves you, yeah!yeah!!yeah!!!. ;-)

It's pretty widespread in the western hemisphere. He isn't a genius, he's a musician. Seasick Steve has a better voice, better tunes and plays better guitar despite his missing strings. Dylanites suffer from The Emperors New Clothes Syndrome.

Just the same as its a bit sad that anyone would think you need some medical knowledge to render first aid or to be able to read and understand what your reading to appreciate literature... Those pictures are really bright, must be good... BTW. The Beatles were really good because they were original however Oasis were crap because all they did was plagiarizer the Beatles. Keep banging those drums and jumping round and you'll get better (the man in the feathers says so)!

"I have a very eclectic taste in music. Abba, Queen, The Doors, P!nk, Classical, Brass Bands. If you can walk away from hearing a tune / song for the first time and whistle it, its a good piece of music. " So do I, as I said in my first post there is good and bad everywhere. Some of the things I like are real bubblegum music. They have no merit other than a clever or not so clever hook. Just the sort of thing that you call good music. I just dont think bubblegum music should be allowed to supplant real musical genius as it is. But then I am proud to be a musical snob and find it amusing that when I put on quality music most people half listen for a couple of minutes and then tell me its boring. I then break out the 1 hit wonders and cheese and they tell me its so much better!

" Have you ever come across music snobs? " Everyone is by your definition of "music snob". Everyone has their own interpretation of what's shit and what isn't ...which is going/can/will differ from somebody else's interpretation.

I'm not seeing that at all greedy. you must have misread the op. music snob,is an elitest, who does not accept, and derides others,if their musical taste differs from theirs. We may indeed all have different tastes in music, but only the music snob feels superior, due to theirs.

A music snob is someone who listens to your music and then tells you in excruciating detail why they think its shit. Having a different taste in music is not snobbery.

"I'm hardly even a music fan...I tend to think music snobs are pretentious twats If they were that concerned about the musical 'quality' then maybe they should actually listen to classical and opera" Yes, and everybody should try to find at least one song of ever genre to appreciate, but music isn't exactly endangered is it lol

"I don't see anything snobbish about preferring music made by someone who can sing and/ or play an instrument and maybe even read those black dot things over someone who has a daft haircut and an agent." It's not so much the kind of music they like. It's more their superiority complex, and the derision of others musical taste,if it differs from theirs. Some may say, pretentious twats, I wouldn't be so bold.
