North of The Wall - youll need your vest

After years of not smoking I fairly recently fell off the wagon. Before it became too much of a habit again I decided to get on the patches last week.

Been quite happily slapping them onto my arse, taking care to use a different site each day as per the instructions....

Just got out of the bath and noticed that I must be having some sort of reaction to them......

My arse looks like a red and white chessboard

Not a good look but if anyone fancies a quick game of chess.....

Well done for trying again, I dont mind a game of Chess as long as it doesn't turn into Draughts

Good luck with giving up, I'm trying to quit too.

You might know this already but you can get help for free on the NHS. Some advisor type guy was telling me that you can get access to a quitting advisor, free patches (if you want to try them again) and gum too. He also mentioned that both Zyban and Champix are available for heavier smokers if need be.

Hope this helps

I think I am going to have to try Champix for that extra push. I have tried going cold turkey but always fail, although I have managed to cut down from 40 a day to around 15, but I am still finding it tricky to completely let go.

Oh really. Well that kind of changes things a little. I was led to believe that there were no side effects. I am a little strange with this stuff as I don't really like the idea of substituting one drug for another, but I will talk to my doc.

Yeah, Champix is available from your GP.

I think that was supposed to have been one of the problems with Zyban, that it can cause depression and stuff

Dont want to tempt fate but Ive found it quite easy up to now, but thats the dangerous part....start thinking 'that was ok, so I can start again for a while and then give up again'

Good luck with giving up ciggies!

Allergic reactions to the glues on the patches are quite common.

Perhaps you could try a different brand in the hope they agree with you etc...

When I used them, they gave me nightmares! (I'm being serious for once)! Spoken to a few folks who had the same side effect with them. So no patches for me, I hate bad dreams!

Usually recommend a course of about 6 treatments, dont know the exact figures but its about 70% success.
