Lonely Christmas?

Northants

Having been single for 7 months I am not particularly looking forward to Christmas this year.

We always hosted all the joint families and I will miss it hugely this year.

I am not looking for sympathy but wondered if anyone knows of any 'singles Christmas events' or I quite fancy going away on a bit of a holiday.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you fabers.

Gaz x

Could always volunteer somewhere. A lot of people in nursing homes have no visitors over Christmas

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

There are things to do. Go away or plan lots of activities. Or plan to pamper yourself in whatever way works for you. Volunteer. Enjoy the peace. Do a house swap with someone wanting a cheap break away.

I have family on Christmas Day but usually everyone leaves London on Boxing Day and I see them all again on NYE. It's not grim being on your own unless you want to make it feel grim.

Good luck.

I volunteered at a nursing home after my first divorce, it was an amazing experience

Do it sooner rather than later. The popular gigs go very quickly so if you want some choice then look now. Also, don't be offended if they turn you down - they do try and place the right people for the roles.

That's a lovely idea, so many older people would be glad to see someone.

Don't forget though it's not just about one day or time of year you can volunteer all year round. I've done charity work for over 6 years now and it's the best thing I've ever done.

Ok I've been homeless as on rough sleeping over Christmas I went to a soup kitchen and got fed...I've helped out in the same place on Christmas Day. I hate seeing anyone lonely at Christmas

In term of volunteering get in early as they have to do CRB checks

I have no family what so ever except my daughter and she may be away Christmas day this year

I think to myself - is that as bad as sleeping rough under covers made out of old clothes and papers ???

No ... See I've had much worse ones

Hospitals ..nursing homes ...homeless shelters - all need volunteers ..

Failing that plenty of holidays available im sure

I wish I could sleep the whole day away. Can't volunteer as don't want to see or hear everyone saying happy Christmas. It died for me 4 years ago.

im working xmas day, it actually falls on my day off but as my big two have moved out to go to uni and my youngest ones off to her dads I thought I may as well go to work for double time than sit in the house alone so offered to work it

I don't have any family besides my children so xmas has never been a big event in my house, without my kids here its just another day really

Brigadoon

I've spent the past six Christmases alone, its only a big deal if you let it be. I sleep in late, get up and slob about in my PJs all day, watch telly, cuddle my cats..give them presents and make them Christmas dinner........get some cats and you will never be lonely, mad maybe but not lonely.

Well said . I've been doing voluntary work for 6 years .infact 3 voluntary roles and just applied for childline

Unless people try volunteering they wil never understand the benefits not only to others but themselves !

Do it today ... If you want I can send you a great link . Let me know

Over the rainbow, under the bridge

Or is there an elderly neighbour who will be alone? You could offer to cook dinner for them.
