.

Is it just me or do others hate it when people contact you and shorten your name.

I hate my name being shortened, but sometimes feel am being picky when I ask people not to shorten it

a Primark shoebox in Leicester

I shorten my own to two letters so they'd struggle to make it much shorter.

used to have a nickname that would be a dead giveaway if i ever used it here.

Even my friends and best man did not find out my real name until the day I was stood in front of the Registrar on my wedding day!

So I can live with Stu

To some people using the full (proper) first name can seem very formal. It was sometimes called your 'Sunday name' and often a sign you were in trouble.

Livingston

Mine doesn't get shortened but I find people call me wends instead of wendy. Now they are both 5 letters, so whats the point or should I consider it a term of endearment.

It's not always the letters they are shortening but the syllables. My name has 5 letters but is 3 syllables.

My name is Samantha and it gets shortened to Sam all the time. I don't mind this.

Samantha makes me feel like I'm either being told off, being very naughty and even very nawty all rolled into one

I've also been called Sambo (HATE HATE HATE), Sammy (not too bad, quite friendly) and even Samwise Hamfast by a particularly fiction loving friend

Was going to say exactly the same thing, if anyone calls me Oliver I feel like I'm being told off... come to think of it most of the time I am!

I prefer people to use my full name, especially at work, only my family and close friends shorten it. I tend to call others by their full names too unless asked to use a shortened version.

I don't like mind being shortened either, especially by those at work that do not know me well but think they do enough to be chummy, usually the ones I do not particularly like! Grrrrrrrrrrrr!!!
