Self importance

We come across all type of people in our lives, but more who pretend to be someone who they are not. They make themselves look bigger in every aspect ie:-

I drive X Y Z

I have X Y Z properties

I have X Y Z businesses

wearing 20K watches etc etc, you get the idea

What I have found is that ones who brag are generally the ones who don't have any of these things, or if they do, it's on loans and credits.

I for example don't look at or judge people by what they drive, what type of watch they are wearing etc, as this doesn't really tell me the true story about the person.

I'm not interested in anything else other than the person who I am speaking with.

Whether they have money/possessions or not, it makes absolutely no difference to me as what is important to me is the person and nothing else.

The world is full of liars and wannabees, some a lot bigger than others.

lots of wealthy people where we live, just down to earth nice people.

then you get some who have bought their council house who are always bragging about one thing or another.

lots of people judge people by how much money they have got, people like to feel superior, everyone does it a bit, its human nature.

Since I am obviously vastly superior to everyone else it doesn't bother me when people brag. It's only natural they want to seem as great as me.

@Soxy.

NO, not judging them in any.

I have no right to judge and neither do I judge anyone based on anything.

But what my point is, these people WANT to be judged based on what they say, or have/not have if you see what I mean

Deciding someone is a liar or a wannabe with nothing to back it up isn't judging?

OP, to be honest it sounds as though you are quite insecure; otherwise you wouldn't let this bother you.

While I'm no fan of materialism, I really don't link it directly to wealth and certainly not to self importance.

To be honest this thread smacks of jealousy. People can spend their money as they choose and I'm not going to judge them.

The fact you have referred to them as liars and wannabes and written a post about it might suggest you are judging them

End of the day we choose who we have in our lives, if boasters aren't who you want around you then move away from them.

We all have choices..

I think people's attitude towards money varies according to their character but also according to how long they've been wealthy.

Old money tends to be much more discreet than new money (think Kardashians and footballers).

But I would not judge someone just from the net worth of what they are wearing / driving .

I have no cash, never had any, however I am rich in so many other ways, 3 rescue dogs, 3 horses, food in the barn and a roof over my head.

I have 2 arms, 2 legs and a couple of brain cells, what more could I possibly need.

Jealousy?

Err I don't think so.

First off, we don't know what positions we are all in and if we want it, we go out and get it. I don't know what you have or do and neither do you know what anyone else has

It's not about jealousy it's about people portraying themselves as something they're not

agree with the first point..

but the 2nd point looks like its based on a perspective where materialism is pretty relevant to the poster..

notwithstanding the basic needs we all have, shelter, food etc..

what is 'it' btw..?

I think you're missing the point here, or maybe I'm not explaining it correctly.

What I am saying is people who portray to be something they are not in order to be liked or judged on what they have.

What I am asking why is it that a lot of people feel that materialistic things matter
