"You can't spot lose fat, it'll come off where it wants not where you want. " This is also true, especially not belly fat.

"You can't spot lose fat, it'll come off where it wants not where you want. This is also true, especially not belly fat. " Spot reduction has been long proven to be a myth. You want to lose belly fat, you have to lose bodyfat, and you do that by either reducing your calorie intake, increasing your calorie expenditure, or both - doing hundred of sit ups is useless.

You can have the best 6 pack ever, but if its under a layer of fat you won't be able to see it. Lose the fat by eating clean, doing weights, and doing HIIT cardio. Then concentrate more on the weights and do less cardio. Keep eating protein to keep your energy up for the weight training. I am also trying to get rid of a belly, but after childbirth I reckon its going to be tough. Good luck!

"Eat healthy, cut out the 'treats'." You say that like its easy - I once almost managed to press an 80kg bag of cement overhead, that was nothing compared to cutting out all the things I enjoy eating

"Eat healthy, cut out the 'treats'. The rest will take care of itself. Sadly its true treats and unhealthy snacks are many peoples downfall. " Yep. I have fallen into the trap of thinking my exercise burns off a lot more than it does so allow myself extras more than I should. I've taken to writing every thing I eat down. Even if I ate 2 mushrooms while prepping dinners etc

"Hi men need a bit of help/advice please I've been going gym since July and go 5 /6 times aweek I started off by doing cardio and lost 3 stone in 3 months (went from 18st 12 to 15st 10 diet dramatically changed when started gym). Now I still have a bit of a belly and the instructor said I should start using weights to help tone my muscle up so been doing weights on alternate days to cardio for last three weeks. The thing is my belly still looks the same and my weight is going up and down by a couple of lbs each week when I weigh my self ,I know muscle weighs heavier than fat but I'm starting to get peed off that my belly is not shifting and not losing weight , should I stick to cardio till belly is flat then tone up or keep mixing cardio and weights and carry on hoping that I will loose my inches rather than weight Thanks for reading " You'll probably find different instructors at the gym have different areas they specialise in. Since you're there often, check them out and ask their advice.

"Fat loss = calories in vs calories out, eat more to gain weight, eat less to lose weight, there's really little more to it that than." It is so much more than that, but it is a starting point.

"the problem is more long term all the flappy bits are loose skin. it will take a long time for it to shrink well done to you for all the hard work. I my self am down to 15 stone ish (96kg) from 19 stone ish (112kg) at my biggest. although I am now a 38 inch waist from a 44inch waist I still see my belly as being big instead of thinking my old jeans fall off me so try looking at the positive " Well done I've gone from 42 waist in jeans to a 36 waist so I know it's working but just disheartened that for last month or so it's not shifting

"Ok for one you need a a good diet high protein low carbs. The reason why you are putting on weight is because your doing weights ie putting muscle on and that will put more weight on as muscle weighs more than fat. You wont see good progress for a while but will happen slow just eat right train hard and you will see benefits and progression. " Thanks for the advice might have to up my game

" Not really, you'll find that though cutting out various food groups and altering insulin sensitivity can make a slight difference, most nutritionists still conclude that fat loss essentially comes down to calories in vs calories out.

"Sit ups with the arms straight out above the head with a comfortable weight, keep arms straight out while doing sit ups Do I make sense? " Anyone look to train their abs would be better off doing crunches rather than sit ups, that transfer most of the weight into the hips. When you crunch, you shouldn't be lifting your upper back much more than a couple of inches off the floor, and as you do this, try and imagine you're pushing your belly button down toward the floor, this will get the best contraction in the abs. Holding a dumbbell with your arms outstretched is also a good idea to increase resistance (I'd just get bored doing 100 crunches), and you should use a weight that allows you to get no more than around 20 reps.

"Fat loss = calories in vs calories out, eat more to gain weight, eat less to lose weight, there's really little more to it that than." There can be a lot more if you factor in the effects of insulin in the body. People who are insulin resistant need to control carbs, and high protein diets work much better for them.

" Not really, you'll find that though cutting out various food groups and altering insulin sensitivity can make a slight difference, most nutritionists still conclude that fat loss essentially comes down to calories in vs calories out." The trouble is most nutritionists are way behind on medical research, and even the medical profession are really slow to accept new thought. If your insulin is normal, calories may be way more improtant, but if you are resistant, you would literally have to starve to lose weight without restricting carbs. Insulin is a 'storage' hormone - body builders should be able to manipulate that to their advantage, but those seeking to burn their own fat may find that just does not happen until insulin is controlled. Interestingly there is an 'epidemic' of insulin resistance among horses too, and exactly the same principles apply.
