paid to breast feed

think im being totally blond dumb stupid add any other thing you might feel inclined to - just watched the news and as a trial in part of the country which is more poverty stricken than some they are going to pay people to breast feed - the part that gets me is if youre skint youd breast feed anyway to save money - not getting into the arguments of who are unable to feed this way - i will add ( as the item grabbed my attention part way through so missed some of it)that i think its because they think these people arent as educated and dont realise its better/cheaper/whatever than bottlefed -

if ive totally got the story wrong please correct me

Cant see the point, everyone with a baby is entitled to milk tokens so you could say your breast feeding for the extra money and still get formula milk with the token, who would know?

that was another thought - are they going to want proof of breast feeding - £20 for two days is the first payment - up to £200 for i think for so many weeks/months

Actually milk tokens never get anywhere near covering the cost of formula.

It's pretty obvious if a mum is breast feeding or not, without having to inspect the breast.

I dont see the harm in offering a financial reward to parents for breast feeding. After all it is in the childs best interest. £200 is nothing in the cost saved to the NHS in the long term to both mum and child.

Not everyone is entitled to milk tokens.

And no, I think it's a ridiculous idea. Paying people to do the best for their baby? They should be doing that without being paid for it. Put the money into educating about BF first.

Everyone with a baby isn't entitled to milk tokens, only people on job seekers income support etc

And its not actually being paid, it's vouchers.

Breast feeding isn't free either, I went through thousands of breast pads, bras and tshirts, but then I was more of a milk fountain than a breast feeder

Didnt they start pushing breast feeding cos some people werent sterilising bottles etc properly, resulting in poorly babies.

Thats what our midwife told us any way.

Breast feeding has to be best in most cases, it saves a fortune on medical intervention, illness and also the cost of manufactured replacement milk,

Mothers milk is full of nutrients, antibodies and bacteria, that strengthen a new borns immune system.

I see this most days on the farm, foals, in fact every animal living on their mothers milk, is stronger, healthier and cheaper to raise.

There will always be exceptions of course, if a mother isn't well, doesn't produce enough milk, possibly a hereditry problem.

Bottle feeding can cause problems, besides health, prevents the new born bonding with it's mother and vice versa.

We live in a time when everything is about greed and convenience, in the farming world its become the norm to remove the baby from its mother and feed it man made "milk " pumped full of anti biotics and bacteria to replace the mothers milk. Resulting in many young animals with behaviour problems,

luckily for them they are destined to become meat within 12 / 20 weeks.

Anything that can be done to encourage natures way has to be a good thing.

its a trial been done by sheffield university for ladies on low incomes

to give them an incentive to feed their babies themselves ,seen it just now still not really get the point of it x

It seems wrong in one way but some reports say it could save that amount 3 fold in health care costs as breast fed babies are healthier. Who knows but if it encourages people surely its not a bad thing.
