Laptop memory and processors

what is more important?

was looking at laptops today and there was one with 4gb RAM and 1TB memory with a AMD Quad Core A6-5200 Processor (2.0 GHz, 2 MB cache) processor

then there is another with 4gb RAM and 500mb with a Intel® Core™ i3-3217U Processor (1.8 GHz, 3 MB cache) processor.

considering i only use the laptop to perv on here and surf the web, the occasional piece of word processing etc

i may consider buyin netflix in the future for streaming to my tv.

the first one is blue and my current fave but am i selling myself short on processor power for a pretty colour?

I would go for the second option.

Although the second only has half the hard disk capacity (500mb), getting a hard disk for storage at a later stage is much easier than changing processors etc.

The intel processors, especially in the I range are much faster than the AMD ones.

However, what you also want to look at is not the immediate need, but long term, over the next couple of years.

Although both do have the same RAM, that's just your virtual temporary memory storage, so this is no real big issue, as you can always upgrade only IF you wanted to.

If you are streaming it. Your internet connection/speed is the most important. As long as that is good, either of those specs will be fine.

Intel cpu's tend to be more expensive than amd's, from what I've read quad core processors really come into there own when doing multitasking with intensive program demands, for normal use a dual core will seem faster.

Wouldn't Netflix be more dependant on your broadband speed?

Acer Aspire e1-522-5885

6GB of RAM, 750GB hard drive, quad core. It was on a mega sale here, came to £270 in canadian money.

Mostly size. Notebooks tend to be the smallest, then netbooks, then laptops. Traditional net books came with web connectivity via a browser and a word processing suite (see the latest Chromebooks dor instance)

Netbooks and notebooks don't usually have cd/dvd drives and run different processors and generally have smaller screens.

Going back to netflix, it'll run fine on any of those machines. My naughty laptop is an ancient Advent with 1gb of ram and it streams fine. My internet connection is the Virgin 100mb but I believe Netflix only requires a minimum of 2mb to stream properly (you won't have access to hd movies though).

If there's only £20 between the two, I would go for the Intel Proc'

As I say, it will certainly be up to the job come 2-3+ years time.

Yes internet connection is one of the key things, but your laptop needs to be able to process the data sufficiently without bottlenecking.

get the AMD quad core one that is a lot faster the Intel i3 is only a dual core.

You tend to get more for your money with AMD processors.

Although intel is the best known brand the amd A6 and the I3 in laptop form are kneck and kneck

RAM is your looking for out of the two but as they are both the same

So your left with hard drive space the AMD has the higher so id go with that althoug 1000Gb is alot at you probably wont come close with a HDD over a SSD it is recommended only to use 75% of your total.

And if its onlt £20 in it why not get more? to think that this will future proof you for 3-4 years is a little optimistic but should serve your needs for a while xx
