I've only got my mum. Gran has dementia in a home.

There are plenty people who have little or no family...

Means you are free to treat yourself, be invited out, or how about helping a charity for the homeless.

I understand the alone bit but you can change that by not waiting for something to happen...

I have not seen the ads .........I would never see them as I have a complete aversion to the telly vision unless its ladies beach ball, Rugby and football.........so the need for consumerism is lost on this sad old bachelor! A walk on the beach and a sunset is..........my telly!

The John Lewis ad from 2011 is the best I think. Makes me blub. I like this year's Boots ad too.

I love christmas ads .. I love Christmas

I have had times when I have woken up alone , been homeless , got told my husband was leaving me ... I could go on but I have many reasons to hate it

I don't because there are some people who aren't as lucky as I am now - nothing worse than having NO home at any time let alone Christmas

Be thankful for what you do have this year - waking up alone is better than waking up alone cold and very hungry

Xmas adds are usually sexist and as was highlighted last year anti dads/men. Mum is shown as doing all the running around cooking etc where a dad is shown he's usually depicted as lazy and sitting around.

Nice stereotyping from the supermarket's.

Carrie, sorry to read you feel this way, also your profile reads that you are really upset by something.

I am struggling to understand what you want. No singles, no meets but a better way of finding a regular friend but not a relationship ?

Thanks for sharing by the way, all single males blocked, sad we all get tarred with the same brush as the idiots on here.

Anyway, I hope you find what you are looking for and wishing you a lovely Christmas.

When I lived alone I had one Christmas where I cooked my own Xmas lunch. I then said never again, so far I've managed it, there is always a way and some good ideas in this thread.

I really fail to see why you think it necessary to comment on the OP's profile when she was talking about being alone at Christmas and trying to make her feel bad for blocking single guys. Think you have just made a very relevant argument FOR blocking in my opinion.

Just because she isn't wanting to meet people from here doesn't mean she can't feel sad at being alone over Christmas does it? Or should all singles alone at Christmas just meet strangers for sex?

I volunteered at the Sally Army in Camden a few years ago. They accepted all offers of help so ended up with way more volunteers than needed which meant very little work and one of the loveliest Christmas day's I've ever had.

I love the new John Lewis Ad, it does bring it home and this year I am going to have the best christmas ever, my girls are with me and not their dad.

I always ask my elderly neighbour what his plans are for xmas because he can always join me or if not I would cook his dinner for him and take it round for him. But he always declines and is never in.

So there are always people you can help !!

Or mine but I really have better things to do with my life than complain about an ad campaign to be fair.

Of we suddenly have all adverts showing a hard working Dad doing all the Xmas jobs there will be complaints of positive discrimination
