"Yes we do. We are very strict with this. When our son got enough presents to fill the front room on Xmas day on his second birthday we have told everyone every year since that it was one main present and maybe a little something else as well if they insisted. And that is it. He gets a small stocking and two presents from us. One main one and something else he wants. That's it. We also make him sort his toys after Birthdays and Xmas and take the little used ones down to the charity shop "For other boys and Girls who haven't got as much" Probably lots won't agree with us but we think it is important. "I buy 1 big one, then 1 or 2 smaller - that's it! Partly because 2 months later its time for birthday presents which is 1 main and 1 smaller present" ah thats interesting,, i see birthdays as more significant occasions than crimbo. *wonders off to start thread*

"I don't think I go overboard at Christmas, I do have the 'fill the sofa' mindset but some are expensive gifts and some are inexpensive but thoughtful gifts. I remember the magic of coming down the stairs and seeing all the wrappings, I want our children to be able to remember that also. My daughter is hard working, polite and she deserves a proper spoiling once a year, although we save for this, don't get ourselves into debt and probably have as much if not more pleasure from it than the kids x" Completely agree, our issue is that with all the presents from friends, relatives, godparents etc even if He gets 1 from each he will still have over 25 presents to open. Take it to two then it is over 50 - Which is a bit extreme for 1 child IMHO.

And I won't be buying crazy priced gifts like iPads etc so it's ok to get quite a few

"What happened to children being given a handful of prezzies or just one main one? Listening to work colleagues speaking about what they're getting their kids it seems that many of their children will be overwhelmed with gifts just from their parents. Either that or they will buy them some really expensive piece of tech. Do we go overboard with kids these days? Are we in danger of producing a generation of wannahaves with an over-developed sense of entitlement? " I thought the sales in previous years had dropped with there being less money about? If people are getting back to having more disposable earnings its probably not a bad thing if it gets the economy going. If they are borrowing to do it then its a bit of a worry.
