Definition of a hero

This time of year always makes me think about heroes and what constitutes one.

My definition of a hero is someone who goes above and beyond the call of duty in life.

My dad had elements of being a hero, he did it quietly, I think Joanna Lumley has elements of being a hero for her work for the Gurkhas and I also think that our armed service personnel, past and present are for protecting us at home and abroad.

What's your definition of a hero?

To me a hero is someone who helps other for no financial gain

though they do a good job and I respect them I do not see firemen, nurses/surgeons, armed forces as hero's as its their job, they chose to do what they do and get paid for doing so

Trained medical staff who go over to third world countries to do voluntary work I see as hero's, people who put their neck on the line to help and save others

I also see people who are willing to donate they dead loved ones organs to save others as hero's

to me a hero is someone who does something for the good of others that they have chosen to do with no gain for themselves

Anyone who faces down their fear of injury and worse to do what is required regardless of the obvious risks to themselves. To do any heroic or brave act you must first understand the danger and you must know you are you are vulnerable.
