I normally end up watching films that have been run many many times and i also have my faves to watch.

But every now and then i watch a film that really makes me sit back and think....

The film 2012 ,the other night was such a film .

The end of the world type of film and i know you have take some things with a pinch of salt , but i couldnt stop thinking about it.....

Are there any films (not talking porn here) that get you really thinking ....what if ?

Here Comes the Devil is a fairly recent Mexican film, quite a fresh spin on the tired old changeling tropes.

A Field in England is psychedelic madness... Not so much thought provoking as brain melting.

Session 9 is a massively underappreciated psychological horror which leaves you guessing, to say the least...

Just a few I've seen recently, sure there's more...

Oldboy is incredible. Not seen the latter yet... Used to have it on DVD , but my ex took it before I could watch it! Grrrr.

Day after tomorrow.

I saw it and was talking to a friend who is a meteorologist. He gave me a book that is not credited in the film at all. It is out of print now and was written years ago by a couple of professors of meteorology and explained exactly how it could happen. And probably did at various points in earths history. Just over a period of weeks not days. Something about a minor deviation in the jet stream and off we go. Scary stuff!!

And thought it was a bit cheeky they never credited it in the film as it was clearly based on the book!

Difficult to prove if that book was based on facts that were out there anyway.

Same thing as the authors of Holy Blood and Holy Grail lost their case against Dan Brown.

I loved both the 28 days and weeks later films, whilst not strictly 'zombie' movies they pulled off the typical premise perfectly, everything feeling as vicious, brutal and merciless as such a scenario would most likely be - no 'cool' moments with heroes stylishly taking out legions of monsters with katanas and bullets whilst spouting bad ass one liners, just real, believable characters fighting for their lives, and not always successfully.

The woodsman, Kevin Bacon could have lost his career playing a pedophile who is released into the community but his skill as an actor made the film a gripping study of reformation and dare I say it, you end up caring about his charecter it's one of the best films I have ever seen as most movies that deal with this subject are from the point of view of the victim or those trying to catch the pedophile, this is a fresh look at crime and punishment and asks the question can pedophiles be rehabilitated?
