dementia , being sectioned

Just had to have my father sectioned under the mental health act , I FEEL SHITE , any advice ????????

None of it is your fault the ultimate decision is that of the doctors. No offence to youbut he is going to be better with people who deal with his condition. Sure he woukd not wantyou to eat yourself up about it.

Sometimes what we want is not what they need.

You have to believe that its in his best interests.

I have had that happen to a close relative. It's horrid in the beginning, but proper treatment will improve his life's quality. Mind - please keep a finger at the pulse: read up on those symptoms! Quite often dementia is wrongly diagnosed as Alzheimer's, which is only one form of dementia. My cousin managed to convince the mental hospital where her mother was taken to do other tests, and indeed was proven right: it was Lewy Body, NOT Alzheimer. Different approach, different medication - and withon 6 months auntie was back in her supervised flat, perfectly capable of doing her own shopping etc. We even could play Scrabble again, which requires quite a few important skills.

You've had no option, it's to protect him and others, although that won't help how you're feeling now.

Try to focus on the fact that for the time being he's safe

Being sectioned is nowt to be ashamed of or worry about although sadly some still try stigmatise it.

Without knowing the circumstances there is no doubt it was not easy snd your fathers well being is all that matters. You know he is in a safe monitored environment. One thing though do not be afraid to ask the staff any question even if you feel it to be trivial.

Just keep reminding yourself that YOU didn't make the decision. Mental health professionals made the decision and if it hadn't been the right thing for your father, they wouldn't have done it.
