chairman of ofsted has suggested children as young as two should be enrolled at school to try annd raise "dire" standards in early education .!!

i believe this is way too young for children to start school ....nurseries at this age is more social interaction and learning through play than education

they are still babies at that age, lots of kids who start school now are still wearing nappies and dont know how to use a knife and fork.

It's as old 8 before they begin formal ed in Scandinavian countries I believe

It's not how early you enrol at school or Nursery, it's all down to the standard of teaching at that level.

If the foundations good, it will help the child to progress as they move on.

The pack em off to school early in Singapore and it seems to be working.

They're all sat in front of pc's soaking it up.

Well with the goovernment presently stopping some benefits when kids are 7 and expecting mothers to go to work...

Its in their interest to get kids to school even younger,regardless if the child is ready or not.

They can then stop those benefits even earlier

Maybe two is to young. But if it is run the same way as a nursery then maybe an option to start at 3. It would take care of a lot of people's Childcare cost issues and possibly lead to a stronger start for some children.

The current age is fine they can bleat all they want but do they really think mothers don't educate young children themselves to some extent.

I think sometimes teachers are being used as parents.

Interaction at that age should come from their parents, children learn by play when young, whats wrong with parents doing it.

The Australians and Americans are doing it right. Being allowed to but alcohol whilst in education is just stupid in my eyes and yes you do have the older generation in education, but they are much more mature when it comes to drinking and having responsibilities.

yes, some parents dont educate their children and expect the schools/nurseries to look after it as thats what they are there for.

hard to hear for some parents, but not all have their childs interests at heart.

even now, i know a child that is 12 months old, right at the time when they are alert and sucking everything in.

what does the mother do with her?

sits her in front of mickey mouse so she can sit on facebook/chat on her phone/go back to bed.

hell, she even forgets to feed the child sometimes, until the kid cries hunger, and dont get me started on changing the poor little fekker.

sadly thats the case for alot of children ...some parents see the tv as a babysitting device
