I was going to meet someone of here until I found out he had a stutter

I asked him to ring me for a chat and he confessed he had a stutter

Is it mean of me not to meet him because he has a stutter ?

i'm in 2 minds on this one. personally i think it is a shallow reason but i guess we all have preferences and all too often we post on here saying people shouldnt have to defend their preferences.

secondly i understand the comment about doing nothing for the guys confidence however the OP is not on here to boost other people's confidence is she?

I wouldn't cancel a meet with someone because of a stutter. Poor bloke prob has had his confidence knocked a bit.

That being said everyone has the right to meet who they want so it's your choice. Just not a choice I would of made. And if I had made that choice I prob wouldn't of told him that was the reason and made another excuse

O p turn it round a minute lets assume a problem you may have that embarasses you is a cause for a meet to be cancelled i doubt you will feel good about yourself.

V's son stutters, but finishes his sentences perfectly well, he only stutters beginning his wording, although have to agree with many that have posted.

We have a lovely family friend who has one and his son has it too and he is one of the loveliest people you would ever wish to meet and know and very good looking so is his wife and she was not put off as she could see more then that in him ... and so can we. Would never put me off people .. as theres a lot of nasty things that would ..

My friend Mark (who is a ninja) says that people suffering from speech impediments just need to focus a bit harder and say it properly.

As for not drilling someone just because they talk a bit shit. I don't think it would bother me at all. As long as they didn't try any dirty talk. lulz

I think you did the right thing...but for his benefit not yours. He doesn't need someone pointing out something that has probably bothered him everyday of his life when there will be far more patient and understanding women on here who wouldn't be rude enough to try to finish a sentence that he is more than capable of finishing in his own time

My personal experience of people with speech impediments is that their minds are working so fast their mouth can't keep up. Some of the most interesting people I know have or have had a speech impediment.

My worse fear for him is going to be high school, kids can be so cruel. Then finding a job.

Yes but spmetimes in life, whilst its not nice, it can be good for people to show their true colours early doors, that way you know who to avoid.

All you need to do is love your son and give him confidence and knowledge to know how to deal with people like that. If he knows THEY are in the wrong hopefully he'll use that strength to ignore or stand up to them.

The transition is difficult but with the right support it doesn't have to be a bad experience and it doesn't have to be permanent.

To be totally honest im not sure if I could meet someone who has a stutter, its not that I think theres anything wrong with that person its just I think I would be embaresed and not know how to deal with it. A guy at work has one and hes a lovely charming guy but I find I have a nervous laugh around him. My opinion is the problem would lay with me not the person with the speech problem.

Takes a lot to make me cry, but that teacher reduced me to tears. A truly inspirational man, as are all the staff at that school. Fuck, I would do detention with the head!!

No, I just know people with speech impediments and someone close to me is following the Stammer Centre programme, with great effect.

cant remember when it was from, but this kid could hardly speak.

the teacher used the film the kings speech as inspiration and used listening to music to help this kid speak in front of the class.

brilliant.

i watched it the other night and it was an amazing moment!!

Takes a lot to make me cry, but that teacher reduced me to tears. A truly inspirational man, as are all the staff at that school. Fuck, I would do detention with the head!!
