Don't like private plates and woudnt have one.

The plates that really make people look like cnuts are the ones where they are illegaly spaced or black screw heads to make other letters.even the uk plates done in french or german style for Renault or vw's or whatever

I quite like those ones when the idiot gets pulled and fined...or the look on their face when our parts manager tell them he won't space them in that way.

I've no issue with private plates, and some are funny (although some just don't seem to have any meaning at all!)..it's dealing with the DVLA to do the transfer that gets my goat

I really don’t mind what people choose to spend their money on…!

But would I buy a private plate? No!

However if by any chance the next car I get comes with 50XR0X5 on it’s plate I’ll hang onto it,,,,

Not into car mods (even as a teenager) but I do actually like pressed plates. German plates are so much more substantial than the naff plastic things we get they just ooze quality when you when you actually have a look at one in the flesh. Even the temporary ones you get when importing a vehicle make the cost of having to purchase them kind of worth it.

Some would say the same at women with 100 pairs of shoes, 75 with the labels still on...or to people who collect anything. The value is different for the person who's parting with the cash. Private plates don't really bother me either way, but I can understand why someone would want to personalise their car...or anything else for that matter

I have a 3 letter surname, so my plate has my initials and my full last name - I bought it cheap (under £300 and put it on a sports car- it doesn't make sense to any one else, just our family. - mid life crisis...possibly, but I enjoy it.

I had one when I had my Scooby. It wasn't expensive. I sold it with the car because it was specific to the model. I liked it, it made the car a little more special and it was a talking point for some. More than one guy used it to start a conversation with me.

Sometimes they make me smile but otherwise I'm not really fussed about whether people have them or not.

lol Saying you were acting like an arse wasn't a dig, it was a straight statement of my opinion. Digs are sly and subtle, or they're supposed to be!

Now less of the silly sod before you set me off again about patronising comments

Incidentally Saabaru is a common insult directed at the marque hence thinking it was intentional.

Some like them others don't however its a fact those that do have them take greater care over their cars, are on the whole more considerate drivers and are more likley to be insured and do keep their cars longer. Its a choice thing but you will always get a little jealousy creeping on from those who don't have them.

When I had mine I took great care of my car and I was always insured. I am not proud to say, however, that sometimes I drove it like an absolute idiot.

Now I don't have one I am still insured and I still look after my car as well as possible but I am a much more experienced and considerate driver.

I had one, I don't have one now, I don't miss having one and I'm not jealous of anyone who does.

Personally I don't get the appeal of them, but have always struggled to find an explanation of my feelings. The above is exactly what I was looking for

OP you are not sad, it does give some amusement on the road to try to figure out what personalised plates mean, and some I have seen I would almost like to own, e.g. SL 1 UTT, now I am happy to know it's because I would also like the Vatersay Golf Club (VGC) jumper
