Hell of a night to be homeless

It's blowin a gale and pissin sideways out there and I got an urgent call from a friend earlier on, asking me if I had a spare bed for one of our old social circle, who is going to be homeless until later next week, despite asking for help all week long.

Sudden and very lucky change of circumstance, he's with family now (for the moment at least). Regardless, he knows he's welcome here.

What really pisses me off is that his countless close friends love being the centre of attention until it involves being of any help whatsoever. That is why I say "old social circle"... shallow bastards.

All it takes is a spare bed, if not a blanket and a couch!

All the best to your friend.

It may realise the true meaning of friend through the hard times, then be able to celebrate his good times with his friends for the future.

Yes, I hope he gets everything dealt with soon. He doesn't often learn the hard way, but now maybe he'll see why we no longer share the same friends. Friends of convenience is a phrase that springs to mind!

I've not slept rough any longer than one night and wouldnt want to. That time I woke up with hypothermia and covered in frost kicked my arse enough.

Yeh my so called friends are just that!!! That's why I prefer to be just me and my boy, don't trust many people at all!!

I help them over and over but if I was on fire they wouldn't piss on me lol

That can take a while to achieve when people have not been there for you the way you thought they would be

Well a long time ago, I had more friends than I could ever want. Same social circle in question. Then I literally went through hell and I did it alone, because that's what I do.

But it damaged me and I didn't have the support I needed when I owned up to it. I spent years and lost friends going out of my way for the people I cared for and they never even met me half way unless it was convenient. I started getting really alienated and questioning my identity.

So the day I turned up to one of their birthdays, said hello, then went to another bar to meet other friends, then went back d*unk two hours later, stood there for five minutes and thought 'fuck this, I feel like I'm waiting in line to get a word in', then got a text half an hour later asking 'did you just walk out on me?'

...I felt pretty fucking good about it LOL. Who needs that? That's not friendship!

Sometimes break does make. Just takes a few years to realise how tougher you are for it

A warm dry place is a minimum, a friend that is willing to give it. Is a friend truly worth having. Best wishes to you all

I really dread finding out which ones. So I keep very few, and they are the ones that returned my unconditional support. And we have one rule only...

Never forget!

I could never imagine being homeless and it would terrify me.

There but for the grace of god eh ...

It can happen and does happen to people all the time.

Those i know well, know there would always be a bed here for them.

And a much needed warm hug .

It's a triumph if you have anything left to feel at all. I emotionally feel like an amputee some days, but the post is about an old friend. I dont even believe it's goodwill, it's just the right thing to do. Treat as you would hope to be treated x
