"Regardless of views on Greenpeace and the worthiness of the cause - it seems a number of the protestors we there last last year, had their fingers smacked and were told in no uncertain terms not to come back. Rule #1. Don't fuck with the Russians." This is what I am struggling with. At what point is the treatment unfair and who judges that when we are dealing with a different legal system?

"There's a woman who has been protesting outside Menwith Hill for years. She's been moved on, cautioned, and arrested, yet she still does it. I guess if you feel strongly enough about something, you'll take some risks. I agree though - don't fuck with the Russians." If you take the risks and it doesn't work out surely the risk is you live with the consequences? I support Prisoners Abroad and the fight for fairness in justice in other jurisdictions but this group had been treated fairly the first time.

"In the North Sea if you go too close to an oil platform they really don't like it. I'd like to say they could have endangered the installation as who knows what sort of flammable liquids and gases are around, was all their equipment used to board the vessel intrinsically safe? But the Russians were shooting weapons so that blows intrinsically safety out of the water The British government has been known to treat protesters with a heavy hand although they tend to be charged and released fairly quickly. The French set explosive charges on and sank the Rainbow Warrior... Greenpeace don't act in accordance with the law so must expect to be held to account on occasion, which in itself is bringing attention to what they are trying to achieve. These people have risked their lives and liberty to protest against actions they see as fundamentally wrong to try and make the world a better place. Without people like this through history the world wouldn't be the place it is. Were the Suffragettes louts and trouble makers? Should everyone just sit back whilst governments and corporations ruin the natural environment for future generations in the name of profits? If you are going to fuck with the likes of Russia, China etc though you'd better buckle up because it's going to be a rough ride. " I get this, I really do. Standing up to change the world takes a special sort of mindset. I'm just not sure that presenting the story as they are being treated unfairly is the way to go.
