Depends on which engine and if there's any other damage.

The head has to come off and be cleaned and skimmed, the block will also need cleaning up and the cooling system with likely need flushing. You'll need a new timing belt, head gasket, stretch bolts and a few other ancillary parts. Expect around 8hrs labour and no change from £600

Depends on the size of the engine I think but my 1ltr shit metro was about £400 but for me, if that went in my car, I would look at the cost and if the car was worth it, if it wasn't, I would scrap it

This

They aren't hard to do if you know some one who is handy. I just done mine (on the cheap) and cost me less than £40 for the parts and a full day doing it.

Ring round a few for prices first so you have a guide to work off.

Depending which engine it is I would say between £600-£800 inc skimming and pressure test, is it definatley the head that's gone loads of people misdiagnose.

Are you 100% certain its the head gasket? Have you had a sniff test and compression test carried out? What symptoms have you got?

Go on eBay and look for a product called steel seal, it's only £30 and if it doesn't work they will give you your money back, it work for mine so got to be worth a try

Certainly sounds like it could be the head gasket. Although I have seen similar symptoms from a blocked radiator.

mine cost £1100 plus vat, with the proviso, car may run for 3 weeks or 3 years, no guarantee.

Using that can cause more bad than good unfortunately. Same as rad weld that people put in. Seems like a cheap solution but ends up costing a lot more in the long run.
