I've spent the last 3 months arguing with the local council that the trees that touch my flat (and are their responsibility) are dangerously overgrown. All of a sudden not being able to open our bedroom window all summer because of a branch touching it seems the least of my worries.

this storm isn't going to be the kind you can have a picnic in if it turns out as forecast. It probably wont involve thunder and lightning either

I was around in the storm of October 1987 and have very good reason to remember it well, if this one is the same it will be nothing to joke about.

That's kinda my plan too; strong winds tend to blow all the leaves into a corner where two walls meet - perfect!!

I am not risking meeting today as he and I were meeting in Oxford, for his side, trains delayed, from my side, roads flooded and may even struggle to get out of Gloucester itself. I could meet someone else instead who is closer but I've no idea what the road towards the Forest of Dean will be like plus the pub is right on the river

My bedroom is by the park. The trees have been really noisy but the bit I can see shows them all still upright. The London news report looks like London in 1987. Transport affected and commuters having problems getting in to Lindon.

I think the teenager that has been killed in the storm has left a family feeling that the storm was severe.

A bit blowy around you isn't the same experience everywhere. The wind reached 91 mph in London - the wind warning was justified. There are trees down on homes and cars and on the rail lines.

what would you prefer them to do, not tell anyone a storm is due..

sadly some have lost their lives..

there have been dozens of trees down, some on roads and railway lines..

pretty sure the warnings kept a lot of folk indoors and with half term also that possibly prevented other accidents..

How have they got it " very wrong " wind speeds of 99 have been recorded and possibly higher in Dover, lives have been lost!! Transport has been distrusted and thousands of homes were without electricity!!

What more did you want?

"Thought we would get away with no damage this year, only to find we woke up to a pond in the.living room. A seal on the double glazing gave way, due to wind the wa ter found its way in. "

There's a joke in there somewhere about a seal and a pond but perhaps today isn't the best day for it.

It least it wasn't a sea lion. They can eat you out of house and home.

same here.

loads of dead leaves around

very wet, but no damage anywhere.

maybe another scaremongering on behalf of the media?

and they wonder why people take weather warnings with a pinch of salt...

what would you prefer them to do, not tell anyone a storm is due..

sadly some have lost their lives..

there have been dozens of trees down, some on roads and railway lines..

pretty sure the warnings kept a lot of folk indoors and with half term also that possibly prevented other accidents..

agree with the sentiment, but its not the first time the weather beurau have got it very wrong

That was nothing compared to the storm of October 1987 or Febuary 1990..

Every autumn there are storms and sadly people lose their lives and this was just such a storm.

The way the Met Office went to the press proudly showing how their super computer had forecast the storm before it had formed and then whipped the press into a frenzy ( yeah, maybe they did that themselves ) predicting a rerun of the 1987 storm.

Those of us that remember the 1987 one will remember the devistation it caused with boats smashed against the shore and roofs blown off and trees down everywhere , we were without power and water for three weeks with both storms.

This was nothing but a blowy night in comparison.

Brighton - even Hove!

I was in Seaford today and there was an ambulance, a police van and a police emergency mobile control centre. They were there because the tide will leave a body there from Newhaven. People were looking for the teenagers body.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

I do find it odd that people are saying because it wasn't as bad as 1987 or 1990 then it's just a blowy night. I remember 1987 very well and finding trees across major routes in London.

I prefer a cautious approach that stops a train travelling at 70mph hitting a branch on the line, stops some from going out on a boat and people prepared for the worst and relieved that it wasn't disaster and devastation everywhere.

Yes, it's the season for storms. Yes, the press like a weather warning. Not everyone will have heard the warning multiple times so it's worth repeating to get it out to as many as possible.

Was real bad here in Yorkshire. Some leaves got blown off some trees, an empty pop can made a noise rolling down the street and worse of all an open wheelie bin lid made a banging noise

there were 30,000 homes without power in Sussex today ... and some won't have it back for a week or so ... some wouldn't share your thoughts it was just a blowy night

...Up on the Downs

"Guy four doors down had his BMW written off by a tree.

I'm saying nothing....

That's justice (of a sort!)"

Why is the sight of a flat Beamer so satisfying? I have no idea...
