"I'd not seen this before but when I checked for more info it turns out there seems to be some dispute about different versions. In some the father is a soldier, in others a fireman who died on 9/11. As far as I can tell the original doesn't mention the father's occupation at all." Does it really matter?

Of course, the person doing the complaining might not actually be the author at all.

The sentiment is there and their work is almost still intact, the sentiment has not been taken away, Some people can cause an argument in an empty room!

"Is stealing someone's poem, changing it and re-posting it on the internet with changes any less wrong than stealing someone's pics from their profile and re-posting them online?" I never posted it as my own work. If you read a story in the fantasy section and got aroused would you complain. This is merely a poem, it maybe fictitious, it may change slightly in different variations but it highlights a very real and extremely tender subject. I posted this to raise awareness to our brothers and sisters fighting over seas and on home soil, and to show respect to the fallen. I'm sure the original author won't mind too much that their message is being spread with the intent it deserves. Feel free to climb back under your rock, and come out when you no the meaning of the word respect!
