Liverpool city council has recently given permission to demolish Georgian buildings of massive historical importance on Duke Street.

On that row of buildings, one such building belonged to John Bellingham until, a timber merchant - and Scouser - who on 11th May 1812 became the only man in history to assassinate a UK Prime Minister, after shooting Sir Spencer Percival, blaming him and his government for the demiss of Bellingham's business!

I do love my Scouse Heritage!

I'm off to make the tea now

Southwick

Were these buildings not protected and if there were reasons for demolition that's sad.

Georgian buildings are my favourite style of architecture of which Brighton has some great examples.....

I dont know that much and the original post was removed by the council shortly after it was published. They should have been protected. Liverpool could lose historic world status for this apparently.

Georgian is is the best, in my opinion, at least in the northwest!

Brighton - even Hove!

The Georgian buildings in Brighton have a very pleasing style and proportion.

Isn't there some kind of weird underground tunnel system built by a bloke using returning Naopleonic soldiers under the city.

Sadly, i only read about it after returning from a weekend in the city?

There's quite a few and they're still excavating tunnels. They go back to piracy days and were used as late as WWII to smuggle supplies and move hospital patients during bombing raids.
