A pensioner has been sued by his carer for loss of earnings after his wife died

They must have directly employed the carer. If the health authority employed the carer they would be liable to pay the redundancy money.

It might sound harsh but if the carer tried to claim benefits after losing her job, they would have told her to sue for loss of earnings just as she would if she worked for anyone else.

The poor bloke has had to pay just shy of four grand compo. He found out he was getting sued for unfair dismisal the day after he buried his wife.

It is totally legal, but I'm not convinced it is moral.

In the same way, the carer would be entitled to money from the estate in lieu of redundancy pay if the one person they were looking after died.
