i have to say your remarks are in bad taste as tonights show was actually about mental health issues which was enlightening to say the least.

I've worked with numerous young people who have self harmed and your often powerless to help

I saw one last week , the man was so d*unk he peed himself and then did a number 2 when put in the ambulance

I didn't see the program but it is very bad news and absolutely destroys lives and families.

The NHS are actually plowing quite a bit of cash into counselling and various methods to deal with it though from what I can tell.

Absolutely devastating to be honest.

Not that I agree with the statement made and I watched tonight's episode yes there was one.

I personally agree with the paramedics - they do not get enough or any training to deal with mental health related call outs.

I didn't see tonight's episode but I did watch one last series where they picked up a schizophrenic man and it was very upsetting to watch him change.....physically change from a frightened, scared, almost child like man to a confident, sinister man in a split second. The staff with him were very good and patient and caring.

As for blue eyes' comment, yes the majority of episodes in the programme are about d*unks that take up valuable police and ambulance time because they can't handle the booze.

Now do they drink because they are mentally ill, or are they mentally ill because they drink?

This is a huge problem for people who work in this field, mental health services won't see them cause they are d*unk and some alcohol agencies won't see them because they are mentally ill, meanwhile they are just left.....

In last week's episode there was a mixture. People who suffered from alcoholism, people with mental illness and people who just had way too much. All dealt with appropriately by the programme editors and by the emergency services staff. Have to say after watching it last week I do think the 'd*unk tanks' are a good idea For those who have simply had a skin full.

It is the policy of some mental health establishments not to see anyone who has consumed alcohol, it is the policy of some alcohol rehab establishments if someone is engaged in mental health services not to see them...many many people have dual diagnosis CC.

I would have thought on a case by case basics. Mental health and illness has been around for as long as humans. This is what happens when you close down hospitals and put people back in the community with little or no help. Care in the community is no laughing matter, it puts already stressed emergency services under increased pressure. These people deserve the right level of care so they can lead a for filling life not just left to rot.

schizophrenia is a complex illness you can get paranoid schizophrenia and schizophrenia. They don't usually have split personality as they are only going on what the voices are telling them to do in their worst state the voices can be pure evil. Its a horrible illness but with the right medication people lead fulfilling lives.

There are a lot of misconceptions about the illness, as can be seen from the number of jokes which confuse schizophrenia and MPD.

Evie's description of a man suddenly and physically changing personality sounded as if it could be a multiple personality.

Either way my point was that the staff dealt with a very upsetting and difficult situation with civility and patience etc. I believe they said schizophrenic but it was last year and I can't remember fully what he suffered from.

I'm not criticising or having a go Evie.

My intention is to try to increase awareness. The "I'm schizophrenic and so am I" type jokes show that schizophrenia is poorly understood.

Both schizophrenia and MPD can be horrible illnesses and can be very difficult to cope with when a person is unwell.

Yes I can well imagine, like the one guy who was let go after waiting to be seen to go and self harm again. A vicious circle where resources are clearly lacking.
