Are you a "forager" and take advantage in natures free bounty ?

I have just been watching country file and they do say that foragers are now stripping the country side .If foraging do you always leave a bit behind or take whatevers there ?

I had to concentrate on reading on here - they were showing way too many scary mushrooms. I caught a glimpse of one covered in blood.

I only really forage blackberries.

Yep I am, blackberries, elderflowers/berries, chestnuts, apples, pears, plums, wild garlic, crab-apples, rosehips, not mushrooms though, only because I would end up picking something deadly.

Always leave some. Not everything's really for picking at the same time so take enough for your needs and leave the rest.

The next person, if there is one, should do the same. If not, they'll be there for you next time.

One dogging site, now locked and closed, had the biggest and tastiest brambles I've ever found. Well away from the vehicle area so they weren't contaminated.

They're probably still growing away and not being picked

I've not long met someone to teach me mushrooms- found Chanterelle, Wild Hedgehog and an amazing purple one called Amethysts Delight. Nom!!!!

Picked blackberries, apples, rowan berries and elder berries this year. Know where there are wild strawberries and raspberries and conkers lol

Too late in the year to start now but the Sloe Gin makers might consider Rumtopf for next year.

Locally foraged in season fruit and good quality rum - ideal late December treat.

My home backs onto countryside and we have loads of brambles, wild strawberries and blackcurrants. There is also a cherry tree which had the biggest cherries on I've ever seen this year. This year has been a bumper year, I can barely keep up! We've had a few blackberry and apple cobblers, I've made some bramble jam, cherry jam, some of the raspberries I've frozen to have on my porridge, I dehydrated the wild strawberries as they are tiny so they will go on my muesli or granola. I've made blackcurrant liqueur but i'm not sure what that's like as it's not ready yet.

I'd never try foraging for mushrooms as i'd probably pick a poisonous one. I tend to just stick to fruit really.

Coastal foraging is great. Scallops, clams, crab, lobster and prawns are all on the menu. Certain types of sea are very tasty too.

I went looking for wild garlic this year but gave up. Probably trampled all over it not knowing really what I was looking for.

Blackberries have been plentiful this year and them and sloes are the only thing I really feel confident about picking.

Caught someone in my field looking for “shrooms” the other week and not of the edible kinds. Cheeky git.

I've been told when blackberry picking.. Leave the ones on the bottom for little animals. Leave the ones on the top for the birds. Take the middle

I had some enjoyment Blackberry picking this year too. You make a good point about where to pick from, I will bare this in mind next year!

Wild garlic pesto is fantastic and the flowers in tempura batter are epic. We love foraging, mushrooms, nettles, elderflower you name we eat it.
