Having just read a post about the gracious lady who offered assistance to a mum with a child in a supermarket I thought I would ask this. If you say someone is distress and offering assistance might put yourself in harm's way would you just walk away or call the police and walk away or calm the police and wade in and try to help ?.

Situationally dependant!! You'd have to have a good head on your shoulders to make a snap decision on what's actually happening - but I'd like to think I'd be happy to step (not 'wade') in if the need was there!

This. I'm happy to help when needed but of course, need to be sensible.

Agree with this. Depends on the situation. There would be no point me getting into a fight coz I'm a wimp and would just get flattened. But if I saw someone had fallen into water for example and was struggling id prob jump in to help even though I'm not a brilliant swimmer.

Yeah I waded into a gang of d*unk kids one night because they'd picked a fight with one neighbour and then moved onto the elderly couple who were only asking them why they were so angry (after they called their respective mates to "come stab this fuckin' tranny).

Bounced the lot of them up the street and that was that until I got investigated two weeks later because two of them wanted to charge me with assault.

That didn't work out well for them at all, despite the leading DI not liking me much and telling me my time was up. Later on he told me never to get involved and dont be a hero because they have more pressing matters to take care of these days...

I'd still do it again!

It depends on the situation. I heard shouting and screaming when I came downstairs last Friday morning and opened the door to see what was going on. There was a man at the end of the road who had a woman pinned against the wall shouting right in her face and wouldn't let her go. This was right next to a busy road with a load of people simply driving past. I didn't want to wade in and get my head kicked in but couldn't leave him to it so I shouted at him to leave her alone and said I'd call the police if he didn't. He bolted and I asked the woman if she wanted to come in and calm down or ring the police or something but she just hung around for a few minutes till she was sure he had gone then went and got a bus.

All it would have taken was for one of those people driving by to stop but guess that was too much effort!

That's why I have the 22 bolt action with a scope attache lol
