"You know when you get out of bed and know instantly that you shouldn't have, well today has been just like that. First my alarm didn't go off then a company has lost a dress that i ordered. And last but not least i went into Tesco's to do some shopping and this what happened!! I was in Tesco's when a shop assistant asked a mother to leave because her child was screaming and throwing things out of the trolley...... Yes that looks like a normal temper tantrum but the Mother was in tears when trying to explain why she couldn't enforce the child to behave. I was disgusted and went over and told the assistant that if the lady couldn't finish her shopping I would go to every paper and have her's and Tesco's plastered all over the front page. I then accompanied her around the shop to give her encouragement to finish her shopping, she just couldn't thank me enough and said that she gets told all the time to stop the child from doing what he does !! The trouble is these children do wear t-shirts that say " HEY YOU I AM AUTISTIC I CAN'T HELP WHAT I DO" . But if you are trying to explain to someone then that person should have the common curtsy to LISTEN !!!!!" what a lovely lady you are. I am sure the lady you helped was much appreciated and will remember your help forever. ![]() ![]() ![]()

"Bless you!!! Being a mother of a beautiful Autistic boy, I would love to think that if I was in a situation like that then someone would help me as u did for that lady!! Well done to you, u should be so proud!! I just wish there were lots more people like u, thank u on behalf of all parents of special needs children xxxxx" In the early years I used to be very scared of my own daughter and what others would say, but you do learn to not so much care what others think but you harden to the situation. Now she is 14 i can take on the world. She still gets people stare at her in the street and wondering that the hell is going on when she is flapping for England at maybe a piece of gravel that is in her way. Me.... I just stand and watch her and have a right ole giggle to myself !!

"I think the problem is that most of us are scared of things that we don't understand ,I work for the company mentioned and have to say I would not have asked the lady to leave but offered assistance as well, however please take in to account was the employee following the instruction of a manager. Either way I apologize to you and the lady with the child on a personal level and on behalf of Tesco. ![]() The question is that, How do you tell if there really is something wrong with the child or not? The way i look at it is !! If you take two ladies or gents with a child of the same age sitting in a trolley both kicking off at the same time. The person with a child that understands what you are saying will almost be saying to the child, "You wait till i get you home or you are not having such and such when we get home" Where the other would know that the child almost has no understanding at all and would either ignore and try and remain calm and keep putting the items back that are being thrown around. Or in my case sign language or pec cards (cards with pictures on them). Of course some Autistic children do understand what is being said but misbehave because of severe social reasons... There's no need to be sorry if the day hadn't started as it did i might have done a different approach to the situation ![]()

This probably pisses folks off for a few mins.. but the parent has the long term goal in mind.. its a slow process throughout childhood!

I think when you actually live with Autism 24/7 can you pick up on signs that are characteristic to the problem. Todays problem was a classic mothers reaction by trying to explain why the child was behaving the way he was. 12 years after my daughters diagnoses. I still stand and explain to people that stare, when in actual fact I should ignore them. We need more awareness in Schools so we don't get the ignorance that is around!! Sorry about spelling mistakes on my phone
