sorry for bringing up football

Roy Hodgson- in 1959 monkeys were sent to the space, the man with them called back to earth asking can he come back, because he's bored and got nothing to do. He was told all he has to do is keeping feeding the monkeys.

Is this racist? If so, is the word monkey racist? It is a metaphor to ask for him to stop being greedy and search out those passes, feed them and they will score.

I've heard many rumours that this was Daniel sturridge complaining to the FA. If so, would you ever want him to play for England again?

The comments we heard was about giving the ball to Townsend and let him do his magic now Townsend has come out to say he was offended or upset so matter closed but the p.c brigade has now made a mountain out of a mole hill

No, Townsend has come out to say its pathetic. Practically everyone from the dressing room besides sturridge has said its ridiculous, and been blown way out of proportion.

I think the FA will genuinely stand by Hodgson, just because they know he's not got it in him to do something wrong, besides playing the wrong teams week after week.

Is it racist no, miss guided yes, you can't use the phrase keep feeding the monkey when referring to a black man, someone is going to get upset, even if it's taken out of context and was part of a larger speech,

I agree the world has gone mad but it is the world we are in today so you have to be careful what you say, certainly in public view

Pc brigade?..one player had apparently complained..all the media, social networks are practically unanimous in their belief Hodgsons's remarks were not racist.

the law is that if someone takes offence to your statement it is classed as racism. Someone took offence so technically he is guilty of using racist language.

personally I think blown out of proportion but he should have known better given that the Mikel monkey incident in not too distant past

Isn't the real point that this ought not to have been in public view.

This 'joke' was told in the dressing room at half time during an important football match.

Whoever passed the story on had nothing in mind other than to undermine the team manager (or coach or whatever he calls himself).

If that is the laws interpretation of racism it is an ass. It panders to the liberal left who are unable to be proportionate when considering such matters.

It's all about context and Hodgson has done nothing wrong here,talk about storm in a tea cup. One day the gutter press are praising you,the next they want to bring you down, nothing new there then.

If it was Sturridge who leaked it he obviously has a big chip on his shoulder and no room for them in any team.

Remember what happened to Roy Keane ? No player can undermine the manager,end of story

it may be that some will shout loudly whatever their political persuasion yes, but the law in this area wasn't wrote to pander to anyone..

like all anti discrimination legislation its written to try and have the majority treat a minority with tolerance..

maybe when some in society think before they treat others who are different as less than equal etc then we possibly wont need it..

not holding ones breath just yet though..

For a majority of people, from whatever race, they appreciate the intentions of the law and act with common sense

Unfortunately the more politically motivated use the law to their own ends - these are the ones that make equality difficult as they undermine the tolerant majority

kind of agree, however, i would like to think the metaphor would have been used had it been beckham/milner or anyone playing out of his skin on th enight.

the thing i have a problem with, is not someone getting offended by something, thats their choice and they have the right to be offended, its the fact he went to the papers, and the papers ran with it without a second thought.

i listened to Gordon Smart last night, while justifying himself, and i have a couple of points.

he said the player wanted to remain annoymous as he had an international career to think of, yet was 'disgusted' and 'angry' at what had been said. why would a player be happy to play for a manager that had 'dusgusted' him so?

also, the 'player' said that Thownsend was upset, and he happily believed this to be gospel, yet the lad said he understood the analogy and no offence was taken.

its ridiculous.

i have no problem with someone feeling aggrieved by something, as said, its their choice.

this episode was a massive abuse of trust, and i really dont see how they can be welcomed into the squad to spend a few weeks away, if they are going to run to the press everytime something isnt to their liking.

i feel this players england career SHOULD now be over, as long as Roy is in charge.

a fella phoned the radio last night and told of a bloke that was told to stop 'monkeying around' and sued the company for over 20k in for emotional damages.

It's absolutely pathetic. This analogy could have just as easily been used on a white player had he been the player terrorising the opposition defence. Plus, in the analogy the monkey is more intelligent than the astronaut!!

Whoever has leaked this to the press can never be trusted in this environment again, - possibly at club level also.

Lets face it, he's obviously not the brightest spark in the matchbox, is he?

I was recently listening to a representative of the black lawyers on this subject & they've done themselves no favours either; - just as pathetic!!

He didn't say it referring to a black man, he said it in a generic sense. Keep feeding your team mates.

Personally, his words where inspiring. I cannot see how anyone could take it as racist, he's from a time where a monkey is a monkey. I am apparently from the generation where a monkey is someone of ethnic origin. If you're calling someone a monkey in a derogatory context, then that can be seen as racist. In what way is that derogatory? The player who reported this shouldn't be playing club nor international football, whether its Lionel messi or David ngog.
