So the practices at the Al-Madinah free school in Derby have been uncovered. This was basically a school for Muslims with a very small percentage of non Muslims. So much for integration.

This shows the folly of no proper controls by council/government did anyone truly believe a muslim school would actually work for the non muslims as it goes against the beliefs they tend to hold.

Example being non muslims having to wear headgear and girls beong seperated from boys.

This will not be only school like this.

Free schools need some control they can be free to decide how they implement national curiculum but not decide what bits they cover.

This is not anti islam post its simply about equality which this school clearly has no interest in.

Only good thing about this is hopefully others that fail to treat folk equally will either change or get caught and closed.

I feel sorry for all the kids not being education that should a expected.

West Yorkshire

There was going to be a free school opening here this September but the DfE did a u-turn and pulled their support after reports of links between the founders of the free school and Islamic extremism. It wasn't to be a faith school and they stressed in their publicity material that it was a school for all but in the location it was going to be, it would have been virtually all Muslim children and I think that got people worried especially when these rumours and tenuous links came out. In the end the DfE did say they had investigated and found no links to extremism but retracted the go-ahead anyway. All a bit weird.

Brighton - even Hove!

I'm sure I saw on the news or read somewhere that a faith school like that or something wanted to sit the girls at the back of the class. I found that idea morally reprehensible.

West Yorkshire

Just read an article about this school in Derby now. It seems the segregation and making female staff and pupils wear hijab is only a small part of the problems they have had. Hard to believe they've been open for as long as they have with what seems to be a completely hopeless curriculum. No differentiation? And cutting and sticking when OFSTED are in? Yeah kids have to cut stuff out and stick it down somewhere at some point but spending so long doing it for an observed lesson...hopefully this will put the rocket up their arse that they badly need.

Indeed. Personally I don't think any publicly funded school should have a religious bias, however while there are those biases all should be catered for.

School of Scientology Free School?..

Not sure about muslim schools but catholics covers other religions as part of curriculum muslims do not as they see ony islam as true religion i could be wrong on this.

Females and males are segregated and treated differently in islam this i know for fact as my grandkids are of mixed race abd attend catholic school but also go to mosques when they feel like it.

There is no pressure from our side of family to attend church or the mosque as they are free to decide what they wish to do.

The fathers side of family are dead against them going to church and say islam is all that matters and when my daughter goes see his family they insist she wears the muslim clothing if she has been at work she will go in what they say are unsuitable clothing as in normal stuff bearing in mind she is white non muslim.

In addition to this she is expected to sit in room with the females and not with the men. She does what she wants as she is free spirit.

If she chose to convert to islam i would not be keen but would respect her choice.

Choice is the key here.

All muslim all non muslim schools do not work for my liking as integration is a massive issue in uk and all sections of society have a part to play but mostly it seems to me one sided.

Personally i think religion and the various beliefs should be covered in all schools so people can make an informed decision to follow any or no religion instead of being brainwashed by any particular religious beliefs.

I heard the story today. I have to say that I am glad the school is being closed as it was beginning to look like they are untouchable. I hope that there are plans to support the children until April when the school is closed.
