"Andrew Mitchell vindicated? Police Officers telling lies? Senior Police Officers closing ranks? Cover up? If it wasn't for a secret tape recorded conversation the Police would probably have got away with this. What's your _iew?" The offending officers should be tried and dealt with by the courts and kicked out the force. But can't see it happening. ![]()

"the problem so far is that mitchell himself actually hasn't made any offical complaint against the police concerned in "plebgate".... what the IPCC actually said was there was a probablity that the police weren't telling the entire truth in regards to the meeting mitchell had with his local force, west mercia, and the comments they made after..... which is verified by the secret recording mitchell made.... and in that sense the head of the west mercia police federation should apologise... which he hasn't so far" It seems as though Mitchell released the recording to make a point..but won't take it further...which means no further action is likely against the alleged offenders... Been a big waste of time and column inches reporting what turned out to be tripe.. What's new? I hear you say

"In my experience, most Police officers are happy to lie to get whatever outcome they want from any given situation. To some degree, they can do as they please and, when they close ranks, there's nothing you can do to stop them. A very frightening situation indeed." "most police officers" what a load of crap. Most police officers do a great job and they want to do a great job. Every shift going to calls where you're meeting people who want confrontation, spit, swear at them etc. I have a lot of respect for them and yes, there will be one or two bad apples but I believe that's the exception, not the rule.

The police tell lies, I have been lied about in court once (driving offence, the judge took a look at the evidence and threw it out) and had 2 WPC's stand in front of me and tell bare faced lies (my offence, I wanted to see my 3 year old son, oh and I was a man, "possession of an offensive penis" it would appear). The police federation are a union and thats it, sod the public, more money for them and their members is their only aim.

"Its very funny really. After years of backing the police when it has been obvious that they have been lying (think Hillsborough for 1), the Tories now cry foul when one of their own is the victim. ![]() ![]() ![]() Tony Blair wrote on the notes of the then Home Secretary "why are we looking at this case again is it really necessary "in relation to hillsborough The police made " Pleb gate" political. As others have said the police lie much to often to get convictions and now to discredit politicians . While it won't affect most people it is harmful to our freedom and rights or at least potentially so

One or two bad eggs??? Not where I was brought/dragged up - it was common knowledge that there was vast corruption across the board & now, with the Hillsborough business in particular, some of us are finally learning that it isn't & wasn't just 'one or two eggs' after all!!

"Despite my so called lefty tendencies, I'm not overly concerned when/ if cops lie to ensure those who ought to feel the long arm of the law actually do so." the problem with that is who decides whom ought to feel the hand on the shoulder..? if you accept that its ok for the police to nail the 'known' drug dealer with previous who the clever solicitor keeps on the street.. then you open a huge can of worms.. who is next.. the neighbours, cause the old boy looks dodgy..? the union official who speaks out about dangerous workplace conditions..? the journalist..? etc etc..

It is ![]() not really, otherwise you may as well remove the justice system completely and just have police comissioners being judge, jury and executioner and outlaw solicitors, which in turn would mean some innocent peoples would be punished as its not like the police ever get ot wrong now is it....?

" not the point though is it? Yeah. It is ![]() Nah, you'll still need the various participants in the criminal justice system in place so those held to account for their crimes will be seen to have had due process - even if the evidence has been planted or someone has been 'verbaled'. Justice must not only be done, it must be seen to have been done.

It is ![]() so, what you are saying is, no matter how the conclusion is came to, as long as its the right conclusion, as decided by a copper, then it doesnt matter how it had been gotten? sounds a little too much like the old KGB way of doing things, if you ask me lol

The KGB targeted people who didn't actually deserve it. I'm not suggesting that. We all, as I said above, know people who deserve the attention of the cops but who, for various reasons, have escaped it so far. They're the ones I'd have plod out lifting.

"Just as I felt Mitchell should be castigated if he used such a term at the time I feel the same about the police officers involved. Disciplinary and legal action for perverting the course of justice AND wasting police time. The number of police forces involved in this has been ridiculous. " Never mind the police time, I'm sick of hearing about this story. Even the shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes didn't get this much coverage.

It's already in the papers that they won't accept his resignation until after sentencing and inquiry results...
