Anyone not in the slightest interested in football for me its spoilt by overpaid overrated players who dive and cheat and show no respect to referees etc and there is complete lack of discipline.

At one time it was a contact sport now folk roll around at slightest touch as if being shot its pathetic.

If you are footy fan rather than hijack the topic with drivel am trying a rather unscoentific test

I'm not a massive football fan (much to my fathers disappointment!).

Don't get me wrong I like to watch the occasional game (I even go to Upton Park around once a season) but week in week out I don't really follow it.

I can see why people do like it though; everyone needs hobbies/interests and it is fairly accessible as it is on the TV a lot and it doesn't cost much to grab a football and head to a park.

But yeah, it has just gone too far. Too much money and fame. Bit of a shame that there is no way to control the beast a little.

I used to bloody love ice hockey. I was pretty good at it too at one point but I don't think I could handle it now. Would love to get back into it.

Many may know Minot the greatest football fan (despite playing for my schools first female team back in the day )

I'm not. Bothered about how much they get paid really. I wish someone would think that I had a talent good enough for that kind of money!

I actually can appreciate a good game of football but what puts me off is the faking and diving on the pitch. Someone rolling around acting like they've broken their leg then jumping up to take the free kick!!

I also don't like the lack of respect foe the ref. Seeing them all crowd Round him, arguing with him, pulling on him arms to get his attention etc.

And my top pet peeve are the (probably minority but loudest group of) fans that chant raracist abuse or even just abuse in general to the players and who create an atmosphere of intimidation at football grounds.

I can't stand football, can't tell you the reason why though. Just one day I got fed up with football and stopped watching it.

I do agree with the points that are nade though, them being paid too much and the cheating.

I'm not a fan of watching football, used to enjoy playing.

I will watch the world cup though for some reason, if only to watch some minnow team scare the shit out of a bigger team - Cameroon anyone?

As for being over paid, as a rule the principle of payment is based on what people are willing to give you, not on some other value. Some of the greatest athletes in the world - rowers for example don't make anything unless they've won multiple olympic golds, but that's because not many people pay to watch and it's not on tv. Football has a huge global audience, therefore salaries will reflect this. Sad but true.

Personally as a rugby player/coach, the treatment of the referee is appalling in football. Swear/chat back/touch or shout at a ref and you should be heading for the stands! Perhaps the yellow card should be 10 mins of pitch as has been introduced in rugby?

Can't stand football but do like to see NCFC do well. They aren't rich enough to have been ruined by the money involved yet

We both love our clubs though, always look for the results, listen in on radio, keep abreast of sky sports updates on other clubs, watch the odd game. Still go too occasionally and enjoy it but it has lost that energy it once had, too expensive and too much money involved which although it's more attractive in stadia, tv viewing coverage etc it definitely has spoilt the working man's game.

England we still look out for but to be fair watch the games pretty impartially now being honest enough to realise the level we are at and unlikely to exceed.

The annoying two week patriots during tournaments make our skin crawl.

Football bores me to death, it always has and the hype around it puts me off even more. When my son was younger I used to take him to games as he is a fan. I used to take a small radio with ear phones or even a book to pass the time. As for the so called top flight plays some of them are in severe need of a reality check. They set a very poor example and are as far from 'sports men' as its possible to be.

I love the game, but there is a lot of stuff that happens around it that I do not like.

With regards what they get paid, yes its fuckloads, but it is the market rate.

Rugby is a clean game where the players dont try and gain an advantage by foul play - ever.

Rugby fans get pissed and never ever cause trouble after the game either - ever.

Yeah ok, whatever.

Theres more trouble in cardiff on saturday nights during rugby season than what used to happen when we had the FA CUP finals etc here.

Yeah fair enough rugby fans never have running battles with the police in the middle of town like the football fans did, but dont be nieve to think Rugby is a game for angels.

Rugby is more disciplined than football and defenatly is more respectful to the ref's and fellow players. Just like football, some rugby players get paid too much aswell.

Football players donate millions each year to charity, not every penny goes towards making some of them into dickheads

A friend of mine worked in a pub in Leicester that has football and rugby fans on alternate Saturdays. She much preferred the football weekends - the fans could be a bit raucous but were generally polite and respectful. The staff team dreaded the rugby matches though, when the pub filled with rule, boorish, humourless oafs who looked down their noses at them.

Funny that

I used to work in a bar in Leicester (in fact a couple of them) and we had the exact opposite problem. Football fans were barred from at lest two near the centre and we had to organise extra security, conversely we didn't with rugby.

As for polite and respectful? Are you absolutely sure you're talking about Leicester? I found that on the whole they were fine as with most fans of any sport, but, there were a significant minority who made areas very uncomfortable to be in post match.

I used to love it about a decade ago but then woke up from the spell I was under ...lol. Now I only watch it every 2- 4 years for the euro and World Cup !!
