The early Kings of Leon albums were great but they completely sold out and turned into a boy band.

The Strokes sold out too with Julian making bloosy Christmas songs.

Sad times.

The wedding present are great but The White Stripes are probably my favourite though.

Loved Blur and the Libertines, Babyshambles ain't bad.

I do like indie music as I find it is mostly bands playing for the fun of it rather than for commercial success. Apart from Oasis. I don't like them much, a couple of good songs but not really my cup of tea.

Nirvana werent Indie they were grunge. To insist that Nirvana were indie is to suggest that Alice in Chains , Stone Temple Pilots etc were indie too. TOTALLY different genre altogether.

"Nirvana werent Indie they were grunge. To insist that Nirvana were indie is to suggest that Alice in Chains , Stone Temple Pilots etc were indie too. TOTALLY different genre altogether."

indie refers to the record label that a band is signed to, it is short for independent as in being signed to an independent rather than a major label

It doesn't really matter though does it. Indie covers a large variety of music. Grunge could be lumped in with indie quite easily.

Indeed. It is all essentially under the big tree of rock music. Categorising music gets a bit difficult.

Oasis best indie band, there's not been a band like them since they've had a direct affect on a lot of bands including the arctic monkeys, the roses are a great band and had a direct affect on oasis

The smiths have some awesome tracks, joy division akso awesome bit started out as a punk band and paved the way for what were now call indie. The stone roses are great too as are oasis, and the happy mondays. I could never choose just 1 they are all so different and just as good as each other, My favourite recent band is probabaly razorlight

"Of the yanks I'd chose kings of Leon "

What about the killers?

Between arctic monkeys and the courteeners currently.

Oasis, blur and the libertines of course in previous times.

But then you're forgetting chilli peppers and elbow. Even Coldplay if you class them as indie.

"So who was your favourite

The Smiths , Nervana , or someone else "

Nirvana are my fave band, have been since 89, but I wouldn't class them as indie? However, the stone roses for me are probably the best indie band, but there are loads that I like , the inspiral carpets, house of love, the mondays, Paris Angels, Ultra Vivid Scene, the pixies...great memories

I love the stone roses, and they did influence practically everyone who I previously said, but in all honesty I think they all become better just by taking what they did, then just putting their own little twist on it to improve it.

Agreed, many of the bands mentioned here never were on INDIEpendat record labels....
