Latin's very useful if you enter a medical profession. I'm learning standard Chinese at the moment - might as well learn the language of the future world over-lords.

I started to learn sign language at school. It was a voluntary class and I did it for a few months. The only thing I remember though is how to sign the vowels.

West Wales and Cardiff

I wish I could speak Welsh properly.

My parents were both Welsh speakers, but I grew up in a part if Wales were it was hardly spoken. Go thirty miles north and it was a completely different story.

I didn't have a single lesson in school and my parents didn't push it - back then there was still a lot of angst about it in Wales. Now it's very different and that's generally for the better.

It's always been a living, breathing, vibrant part of the community in some parts of Wales, rather than the daft cliche of it being a "dead language". There's a fair amount of politics on both sides, but I prefer to ignore that. I just know it can be beautiful when spoken well...especially by a classy, sexy woman!

Mandarin and Cantonese.

My Russian is already pretty good but I'd like to brush up on it.

I feel that the above three languages are probably going to be very important in the next few years.

I already speak a little French and German and I'm fluent in Polish.

I don't agree. English will always be the international business language, not because of the Brits, but because of the Yanks, the Aussies, Canadians, and because of all the people hooked on English language movies and music.

I agree, nothing will replace English as the international business language but I think Mandarin and Cantonese will possibly equal it in years to come. The Chinese are big fans of people making an effort to learn their language as it shows respect. Although if the Americans default on Thursday we could be bailing them out!...

Titz Towers, North Notts

Latin, simply because I find it interesting. Also maybe Queen's English, as Mansfield English is very different. 'Who wa he wiv? Wa he wiv hissen?' Translates as was he with anyone or was he on his own....

I did once read an interview with a chap who was fluent in about 15 languages and was amazed. Most of them were European languages. The article said the biggest challenge is to be fluent in widely different languages. It made my brain ache, just the thought.
