I may get some words wrong in this thread and for the tattoo purists i apologise now but...

...Can anyone describe the process to me and is it as painful as some people make out to be? How long would it take / cost to get one?

I've been considering getting one done for a while but have chickened out either cause i've been told its painful, takes too long, the ink wont be good on my skin or costs too much. I wish to have one on my back, the idea i have is for a broad sword between my shoulder blades and down the sword blade to go down the length of my spine. Is it risky to have it done near my spine/central nervous system.

Can anyone recommend a good tattoo artist/person/parlour where i could go and they hopefully wont laugh their arses off at my idea

it is a bit scratchy to begin with but your bodies natural defenses will numb it after a few mins, but it does depend on your pain threshold as well.

cost depends on size and quality of artists...remember

good tattoos arent cheap

I only have one done on my bum cheek, about 5in x 3in, and took good 3h at the tattooist, excluding initial consultation, drafting and finalising the design which involved a separate trip.

It hurt, and I am not going to have another one done.

Love it though, as it is my own design.

inside of elbo and under arm I found the worse place, spines quite painful when you get to the base too, but deffo inside of elbo is the worse in my opinion

inkskin in great bridge is very good, there's a girl there called Hayley she did my daughters cherry blossom, it starts on her foot, goes up her leg, up her side and over her shoulder the detail is superb, I would defo use her if I had anymore, there's a guy there too he's good but not as good as her from what I have seen of both their work

Depends where you are. There's a great studio in Northampton run by a girl I used to babysit when she was a kid.

Swanny's in Loughborough is also excellent.

I think it depends on the tattooist as well as I have a small forearm tattoo that almost had me screaming and he drew blood when he did it , the bugger. But the awesome guy that did my back was a much better artist and had more passion for his skill and hurt half as much.

I've got both sleeves done.

The pain for the most part is bearable and as I said previously some parts hurt more than others. For most people the outline tends to hurt more and that's because there are fewer needles involved and they go slightly deeper.

I would suggest that you complete your sleeves over the course of multiple sittings and allow the work to heal properly before having any more done, amongst other things this will reduce the chance of an infection which as well as being painful will ruin the work.

Oh well lets just day that when he got to the middle of my back I was sat on the edge of the chair, gripping the leather and about to scream like a banshee! It really did sting but... You endure it as for one you sure don't wanna be leaping out of the chair with a needle working on you and two, its worth the pain knowing the reward.

oh yeah, I have two half sleeves the left arm continues over my shoulder and up my keck, wearing a bra after was a nightmare, rubbed like hell, I had to have a patch re coloured then had to go thro all the rubbing over again, pain in the ass

I should also add that I find its more painful the next day.

The aftercare of a new tattoo is vital. I generally just wash mine for the first couple of days with warm, soapy water. Once the scab has formed I still wash it but I apply Preparation-H (hemeroid cream) too. This stops infection and helps stop it itching. Others often use Bepanthen but the one time I used it I got an infection (probably just me).

It is important you don't scratch it, no matter how much it itches...

My son is a tattooist, has tats all over his body including a full back. Ive got three and the worst one for me was bottom of my leg as it kept shaking nerve reaction.

Always have something to eat snd a sugary drink begore a tat. Xx

I have got around 17 at the moment, booked in for a few more in a couple of weeks time. Have a consoltation first with a trusted/respected artist, make sure they are happy & capable to do your chosen design and very importantly that they are a clean studio, ask to see their certificates, if they are legit they'll be happy to show you. Prices range on time + size of design, may take a few sittings. On the shallow side, if you're a pussy they do have numbing cream!

It's a shame you didn't ask about this before the weekend. Our you could have gone to the tattoo jam convention at Doncaster and seen at first hand the process of how tattoos are done. Asked questions and found out cost and also see how some are artists and some not so much so.

Get a tattoo magazine see when we're the next convention is and go along.

We have just booked Mrs bling in for her next tattoo. The artist charges about £80 an hour. But the waiting list is 6 months as the better artists tend to get booked up (the owner has closed his books as he is a year in advance at the moment).I'm saving up for my next one as its going to cost about £500. As for pain it was the outline that hurt the most but after that you kinda go numb. The most painful was the hand picked text on my arms as its a slow process.

I believe this works well on the fleshier areas of bodies but doesn't work so well over bones.

I'm getting full sleeves done, I notice you have tattoo's down your arm, I naturally/genetically have quite a high pain threshold anyway, but does it hurt majorly?

What's the worst part of the Tattooing process?

Currently I don't have any whatsoever..

It is important you don't scratch it, no matter how much it itches..."

If it itches, slap it don't scratch. Or put something cold on it.
