Prefer it in a small dish on the side myself, that's how I serve up my sauce at home.

It stops it from swimming all over the plate and make the chips and onion rings etc. soggy.

Depends on the meal and the sauce.

Generally on the side for dipping but if its HP then all over to mix with gravy or mince or mash.
