I don't mean sexual things.

They are times when I fancy going out for a meal, or going out for a couple of drinks. But 99% of the time I have no one to go with.

I know socialising is a great way to meet people, just don't want people to (correctly) think I'm Billy no mates.

(not a whiney post, someone on this forum mentioned carvery and I thought, I might have one one Sunday)

It can emphasise solitude to be alone in a room full of people but sometimes when you hear the crap they're chatting you're glad you are. As Victoria Wood said "its nice when you say "damn I've left the tomatoes on the back seat of the car" to have some one say "have you"".

Take a book to the carvery and observe people over the top of it

Also a really good way to meet people is volunteering a couple of hours in a charity shop.

I love it.

I mostly eat on my own and I go out to restaurants a lot. I always go early, usually as they are opening as I like the fact it is normally quiet. I wouldn't book to eat on my own 7pm onwards as I see that is taking up a table that could be used for more people.

I'm a solitary person, I like my own company better. I only have one friend I lunch with where we swap naughty gossip. You only need one really good friend in life. I would happily eat alone, I would enjoy my food more and who knows a member of staff might catch your eye

I never go to a pub on my own, but very often find myself in Starbucks with a book, pretending to read it listening to other people's conversations. Sometimes, I am actually trying to read my book but people are very loud though so you can't help but listen. I say go for your drink/Sunday lunch x

I like eating alone in restaurants. You tend to get served a lot quicker as they want to free up the table.

I love and have always done things on my own, even during the periods of time when I was involved in relationships.

As I grow older, I find I need to spend more time on my own, and am less tolerant of noisy rowdy behaviours from group gatherings.

When I am out and about on my own, I spend a lot of time people watching, great fun!

Used to regularly eat on my own on London and nobody gives you a second glance. Where I live now I'm more likely to get a take-away though!

Pick the right night and there's many a restaurant will be delighted to have an extra diner.

A look at the restaurant booking site which begins with a number and ends in the abbreviation for the Prime Minister will show lots of places, at least in Glasgow, with availability.

You don't even have to do the cheapo/ small portions thing. Just phone them direct.

I have planned to have a solitary celebratory meal on my own for my 50th birthday in 2015, and it will be a very special meal.

Would I go out on my own and try to meet randoms somewhere? No I won't.

Would I join a social site and meet people that way? Yes I will, but will be extremely careful on who I meet as so far I have only met nutters.

If I had my own place and I came home from work. Even though the perfect scenario would be to come home to someone. I still like the thought of coming home and thinking "ah can relax now in peace" and I would rather that than going out to socialise.
